Journalist: Hammers interest in Soucek pal may have legs

West Ham’s interest in Alex Kral may well have legs, according to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas.

The Spartak Moscow midfielder has been linked with a potential switch to east London.

Arthur Petrosyan, a Russian football expert, tweeted earlier this month that the Hammers are interested in snapping up the 22-year-old.

Kral is Tomas Soucek’s midfield partner for the Czech Republic, meaning that the contingent of Czech players could grow, with the Irons having signed Vladimir Coufal too in the summer.

Petrosyan claimed he would cost around €18m (£16m), given that Spartak only signed him last year, and the interest has now been backed up by The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas.

He is their Hammers correspondent and, speaking on the latest episode of the U Irons podcast, he has claimed that the Irons are monitoring the midfielder ahead of a potential move.

David Moyes has, of course, happened upon perhaps the best midfield duo we have had for quite some time in Soucek and Declan Rice but it doesn’t seem that Kral will be coming in to break the duo up.

Thomas said: “West Ham have been linked with [a] Spartak Moscow midfielder called Alex Kral.

“He has the same agent as Vladimir Coufal and his valuation is in the region between £12-15 million and it’s a player West Ham are looking at – but not as a first-team regular, more so as a backup for Rice and Soucek.”

Can't imagine Kral coming in as backup for Rice. Soucek possibly, but he looks like more of an attacking midfielder to me. Has loads of pace so could be an upgrade on Fornals.
