What ever became of the MnM bar ? I know it was closed during our last season but we stopped drinking in there well before that as the beer on match days to put it mildly, was not very nice !

Re: Ken's Cafe
Not a greasy spoon but the Sunrise Cafe on Barking Rd had decent food. Used to have their omelette and chips on a match day. Run by Albanians I think. who were friendly enough. Still there.

Before that used to frequent Cassettaris with Charlie on the door making sure every last seat was used. Loved the steak pie, veg and mash. Phil C now owns a popular cafe by the Museum in Colchester.

Also loved the mega breakfast in Montys on Barking Rd but it became the M M Bar

Re: Ken's Cafe
After West Ham relocated, a large portion of revenue disappeared.

The greasy spoon brigade of Hammers’ fans loved Ken’s nosh, but the Polish builders et al who remained post-Upton Park never quite understood what the fuss was about.

To them, it was just a dirty cafe with greasy food served up by frumpy unsmiling women.

Ken’s Cafe was unwanted and with nowhere to go, like a piece of chewing gum spat out of Sam Allardyce’s mouth on a rainy October day after a 0 - 0 spirit lifter.

And so it was fate, when one day Agent Smith pressed Mr Ken’s face into a plate of undercooked egg and chips and growled to tune of a rattling Barking tube.

‘You hear that Mr Ken? .....That is the sound of
Inevitability.’

Now all that remains are happy memories of weak tea, teletext and beans on toast, along with pointless reminiscing on web fan forums.

Still, one question remains a deep mystery to this day.

Did Mrs Ken really .....

I love a good old fashioned caff. Not that there are many about now. Proper English grub like egg, bacon, sausage bean's n' chips or liver, bacon, onions and mash. And maybe some bread and butter.

Washed down with a cup of piping hot, strong as an ox, tea.

Ahh, the memories.

Lisbon's worse (not Lisburn ;-)).

Espresso comes with sugar unless you say otherwise. Which means gestures, if your Portuguese is at my level.

Have a great fry up in there before a game once. Real atmosphere on match day. Also was my first time ever to order a tea and it came with the milk already in it ! You English are strange folk.

I thought best not to ask for a decaf almond milk frappe with sprinkles on top after that !

Re: Ken's Cafe
I believe the couple who had run it for 50 odd years retired last year and were selling up..
Nathan's pie & mash gone too.
I still pop into Newham books if I'm working nearby, spent many an hour sifting through the wide array of sporting, local history & true crime sections (which all seem to merge in to the same piles.
Does pull at the heart strings seeing the area as it is now though.

Still open I believe.
Whereas the shop which used to be Cassetari's cafe is full of ghosts from West Ham's past. ( when we used to win trophies).
