Covid Hotels - £175 per night rip off
Who the fuck negotiated these prices? For ten years I travelled all around the UK staying in four and five-star hotels and never paid the rack price. And that was just me.

The government were block booking thousands of rooms for months ahead and hotels are practically empty. For room and full board £100 per night would have surely been obtainable with that buying power.

Instead, they fuck over the people by paying full price to the hotelliers and then passing on the cost.

No doubt there was a palm or two greased along the way.

Spot on Alfs, the Government are fucking useless, they clearly haven't worked in the real world the rest of us have to live and work in or they'd have realised they could have got rooms at a fraction of that. They're throwing taxpayers money around like drunken sailors, a 1000 PWC consultants on a minimum of £1000 a day to run the useless test and trace fiasco, god knows how we're ever going to pay the massive dept off, I just know it will be us and our kids paying for it for a very long time.

Foreign holidays as we knew them are finished in the future. It's all for the climate emergency.
Travel is now only for the rich and elites.
We are moving to the China model over the next 5 years. You do as you are told, stay where you can be monitored for compliance and reject these unnecessary things that bring enjoyment for the greater future good of others.

Society will learn to turn on the selfish who will destroy our planet by using a car, boat or plane just as they do on those nasty anti-vaxxers.

I think these hotels should cost a lot more and be like detention camps tbh.

To be honest, I think it's high time we went back to basics as a society. Who needs fancy cars, foreign exotic holidays and the like. If this pandemic has highlighted anything, it's that all this consumerism and 'keeping up with the Jones' bollocks shoved down our throats through advertising and celebrity culture is a load of old shit.

Working people have saved thousands during lockdown having not felt so compelled to splurge money on shit they don't need.

And if you want a holiday, do the patriotic thing and holiday in the UK for a couple of years to help boost domestic demand. Oh, and stop moaning.

If people are stupid enough to pop overseas for a holiday during a pandemic then they should pay £175 a night.

Can you imagine what this lot would have been like if they'd had to go through rationing, conscription and The Blitz? People talking about children and teenagers being scarred for life, their futures ruined, mental health timebomb, etc. My parents and their siblings were evacuated to live among strangers, not knowing if their parents were going to get flattened or burned to death by a bomb in the middle of the night. I don't want to come across as callous, but fuck me, people are coddled these days.

True! It's well out of hand. I guess there's literally nothing else for anyone to talk about or react to at the moment!

Not a rip off at all.

Hotels have had to tool up at short notice after closure and unlike the more standard scenario these people are in the room all the time and for three meals a day.

People have options.

Travel and pay up
Don't.

The Covid coverage is at saturation levels and all media (dead tree, broadcast and idiots on social media) are frothing at the mouth and going well over the top. It's hysteria.

We've got to the point where nothing is constructive, it's just reflexive whingeing. This thread is an example.

They really are going at this like a bunch of fucking amateurs, aren't they?

It's as if the believe everyone who flies to have the manners & integrity of an upstanding Victorian gentleman.

Why haven't they placed the onus on the airlines to not let people from these red countries even board a flight without proof of booked hotel?

I'd have made the airline fly them all straight back if I had any say in it.

I get the fine if they are British nationals returning home.

If they aren't, surely just send them back from whence they came on the first available flight at their own expense.

And in two or three weeks time (when we've forgotten about this story) it will be revealed hidden deep in the depths of the bbc website that the fine was either never paid or cancelled as the poor folks didn't understand/were not aware or couldn't speak or read english.
