Cresswell appreciation thread
Whilst Rice, Soucek and Antonio have got most the plaudits this season, for me Cresswell has been one of our best performers.

IIRC, he has the most assists from a defender this season? Not to mention he's been solid all season long an his consistency has been fucking magnificent.

Top work, Cresswell son.

Never had a problem with Cresswell always been good enough as far as I'm concerned, form dipped a bit under pellegrini with the tart Anderson in front of him .

He is playing great.
Back to his old self! I remember when we all expected him to get an England call up and then his game slid.
Ogbonna should get a mention in the original post as well. Shame he got injured. I thought he was a cert for hammer of the year. Not sure now.
Is he due back soon?

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
The thing that's impressed me is that he's much improved his position when defending crosses at the far post. It was the case for a long, long time that he'd get caught under the flight of the ball and leave opponents unmarked. He's got done a couple of times this season on crosses but usually by people who are taller than him rather than due to poor positioning.

He's actually joint 6th in The Premier League, out of all players, for assists.

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
Great thread, he has off days like we all do but he's usually a very reliable asset to the team, always puts in a shift unlike some mercenaries we've had recently but shipped out by Moyes

Antonio, too.

That's seven players who are contenders. Eight with the ever-reliable Flappy.

Like to think I've always stuck by him and always thought some of the criticism was harsh. Sure at certain times his form dipped but he wasn't the only one. Great season this year and from what I've seen a bubbly character to have around. His scouse wit reminds me of Mark Ward,.

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
I was wrong too. I thought his "race was run" as they say Looked very decent this season but we need to get another LB signed for the longer term

I think/speculate from what Moyes says, that he plans to start bringing in more of the young, hungry players, even younger than Soucek and Bowen and use the existing 28 year old contingent for the next season or two and start introducing what will essentially be their replacements. The roles switch then with Cresswell becoming the backup. The old RB Leipzig model that Moyesiah keeps harping on about. Get it right it could sustain us at the right end of the table and even get us through the "glass ceiling" ( as they call it) of the top 6.

But this season, I doff my cap to Cresswell, Ogbonna and even now Diop who was one of our better performers last night. All have shown that good organisation, understanding your role and good coaching can get the best out of players who appeared to have lost their mojo. The exception being Lanzini who's injury a few seasons back seems to have curtailed his Premiership level career.

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
Massive fan of his when he joined us from Ipswich. Thought he deserved the England call-ups and perhaps could have got more if i wasn't for the injury he picked up in pre-season.

I did think after that injury he lost his edge and was never going to be the same player. I genuinely thought under Pellegrini he was finished as a Prem left back unless it was with a promoted team.

Very happy to be proved wrong, goes to show what a good manager and set-up can do for your confidence. He has been excellent this season.

Long may it continue, he has been a great servant and looks to be an important senior player of the squad.

Cress Dawson Soucek Rice Oggy Coufal

Probs a case for all of them for HOTY......as said makes a welcome change when it usually picks itself with 90% of the squad being shite all season

Long may it continue

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
Some people seems to forget that when he first signed for us he got into the England squad and looked fucking class. Always had a wand of a left foot, the fact he has two more assists than Ward-Prowse speaks volumes.

He always looks weak when he gets isolated but that happens far less in this team, as everyone puts a shift in.

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
There's a few contenders out there.

The two who seem to lead the way are Cresswell and Ogbonna, both a bit older and seem to never let their heads go down.

There was across yesterday in the second half into our box..

Cresswell won the header at the far post; I thought in the past, he would’ve got bullied and beat.

LIke MPI has said; we have got a real team.

Re: Cresswell appreciation thread
Creswell's resurgence this year is truly remarkable. I for one never thought he would get back to this level of performance, which is up there or beyond his early years' form.

He is the top points scorer for a defender on the Prems Fantasy Football and never lies :)

If gets HOTY I would not object.
