GAZZA And 5 Bellies touring Italy sampling the food in a don Lucia (or whatever he was called) and the other one kind of way would've been a good watch in its day, but I think the time has past for that kind of thing?

Re: Paul Gascoigne on Wop I'm A Celebrity
Bingo!

I just fucking knew when this thread started, that I'd have to explain the real origin of the term 'wop' at some point!

It does NOT mean 'without papers' or anything like that. It predates all of that wartime or immigration shite by many years.

It comes from the Sicilian term 'Guappo' (which, in English, is kinda' pronounced 'gWOPppo'). It is a reference to a street hustler - somebody with an over-confident swagger, but who dresses like a bit of a dandy.

As for easily offended, I'd say that Italy is the same as any society. Most Italians are pretty hard-assed folk who get on with things. Some, particularly in northern metropolitan areas, are middle-class folk who are too easily offended by the grim or mundane realities of life - and who like to reach for pseudo-academic explanations for things.

Most Italians don't really give a fuck about much, except their family, job, football team and possibly their religion.

Fair enough then, peroni. I bow to your knowledge of the Italian race.

Joe: the word used to be used that way, eg: "The British race"

Re: Paul Gascoigne on Wop I'm A Celebrity
After your average Muslim, who gets muderously offended over something as harmless as a cartoon, there are few groups of people who take offence as often and as trivially as Italians.

Darby, since when has Italian been a race?

It’s ok tho, lots of people get race and nationality mixed up.

Usually - race = colour of your skin. Nationality = where you were born.

Hth.

The Italians aren’t really an easily offended race.
