"there's also a really good Irish butchers in Goldhawk Road"

I am in that neck of the woods. Where in Goldhawk Rd is that? I know the Ginger Pig on Askew Rd which is quite good. The one on Turnham Green Terrace is an overpriced fraudster.

thanks Nurse & Rios.

we have a family home in Sicily which i guess we'll inherit one day.
i've seen the 'dead' villages that they wanna regenerate - like the 1 euro houses you can buy.

we were doing a little tour of all the places we might wanna live buy CV19 has slowed that down. Tuscany or the Italian Riviera are my favourites.

Italy has also just introduced a law to tax non-Italian expats who live there on the value of their overseas properties. So if you live in Italy, but still own property in the UK, you'll be stung.

If you are looking at Italy. there is a new program from the Italian government aimed at foreign buyers.

There are 2,000 'dead' villages in central italy and beyond that are being redeveloped for housing and small hotels. According to the guy I heard on the radio, they are massively subsidised, will have high speed internet and anybody can buy them.

best supermarket steak i have found is whatever the 'finest' 28 day aged range from Lidl is called.
Very decent ribeye and sirloin - not tried the rump.

Rarely eat steak at home or in restaurants (unless chosing a place specifically) - generally end up disappointed.

Re: Meat from a proper butchers shop Vs meat from supermarkets
there's a few farms with shops dotted around where i live.
i've bought the odd thing from them and its been good - just a shame modern life makes it impossible to shop local on a regular basis.
when i retire to italy i'm looking forward to strolling into the market to pick up some fresh food for dinner.

in other news i've got a beef wellington from Gaucho arriving next week - i'll be sure to update you with a review.

I’d never given this a thought until now, will try my local gaff. Am slightly put off my the fact that the butcher is an alcoholic who spends all his time in the pub next door.

Mark’s and Spencer’s steaks are miles better than other supermarkets

I'm lucky enough to be able to drive up to the farm and buy direct from where the beef, lamb and pork is bred. I can look at the animals I will be eating a few months down the line as I drive up the track. Not organic but excellent husbandry they have had a full butchers counter selling their wares since the 70's. Everything is far better than a supermarket and about the same cost as 'taste the difference' type ranges. I've only ever bought the occasional free range chicken from a supermarket in the past 12 years. Bacon and sausages are top notch. They have loads of game and all the wobbly bits of offal you might desire. I'm pretty sure even MiM would prefer the rib eye over any supermarket effort as the beef is just amazing quality.

Re: Meat from a proper butchers shop Vs meat from supermarkets
A good butchers is massively better than the supermarket junk. I have to say in terms of quality and taste it's miles ahead. It does cost more but I'd rather buy less but better quality than the water pumped flavourless crap from supermarkets.

All Butchers will be up against it in the coming years with a global drive to kill the meat market and promote plant and lab grown alternative. Give them your support.
