Stuck in Abu Dhabi temporary assistance requested
I left it too late for the cards

The employer Etihad Rail is like the Mafia they just sack people for nothing. Our project director was sacked for the reception tent no being the right size on a site visit. I was warned before I worked on this project that 2 of our former project directors resigned due to Etihad Rail behavior. I know people from Etihad rail who have kids in school have resign in case they get sacked at the wrong time of the term

I got sacked on the 2nd April be my manager on behalf of Etihad rail track lead for not breaking our own company policy of not changing the status of the contractor reviewed document without a new submission, I told by Etihad rail over the phone to do it that day or sleep with the fishes, I have been waiting for other work here but nothing has come up. The railway industry in UK is now kicking off CP6 Network Rails 5 year spending plan one year late due to Brexit and covid 19 (No Brexit tear ups please) Recruiters are recruiting recruiters on LinkedIn

I got my expense of the 13th and get paid 5 days and some A/L on 25th, about $2000. I am booked here until 22nd and they are asking if I will extend further which I do not want to spend more money here

I got onto the FCO asked if I have the quarantine bill of 1750 as this a demobilization paid for by my company and believe it or not its border force and the hotel on any financial assistance

I can through a grand sterling back in when I get paid, I have a few offers on the table for work from Derby to Glasgow so need to hold onto some money to relocate and then pay back in full and more

I have run myself out of options

Re: Stuck in Abu Dhabi temporary assistance requested
Sounds like Arabs to me.

Had a pretty decent Indian chap working alongside me and a stickler for the rules. The Arabs fired him because he wouldn't "nod stuff through" that they were late in producing.

A day after he left they realised nobody else had access to his library of documentation (he'd been on the project 4 years, so was just about everything) and had to busily set about manually recreating everything to submit stuff to a customer who was getting very, very impatient.

Yes it was a bit like that you get to a tipping point and it's all goes one way very quickly. But I soon got my head together and got plan B which means I need less than half requested in the O/P

Etihad rail are fucking themselves up I was working as the resident engineer/consultant for the main contractor . I had 2 track engineers forv 140 km of new ballast track . As usual civils had over 30 staff. My counterpart for the main contractor is leaving due to Etihad rails behaviour. Everyone else on that section for track have little experience or office engineers. There is another 70km of new ballast track to build and no one to control the sub contractor. Thier top systems bloke , who I know from. Malaysia has resigned as he has a kid in school and cannot afford to get sacked at the wrong time

Re: Stuck in Abu Dhabi temporary assistance requested
This is my first post on here in 6 months I reckon

My own situation is best described as "hanging on hoping that long-outstanding invoices are paid and that work on projects-in-hand gets fucking restarted bloody soon"

Sounds like Eithad Rail have turned into what Nakheel did 12 years back, where people were getting shafted left, right and centre. I take it that in the UAE you're still expected to pay rent 12 or 24 months in advance, school fees a year in advance, etc? Yet you can be terminated and have visa revoked, leaving you just a couple of weeks to get out of Dodge

Seems it from what you're saying.

So despite having some Arab heritage and very basic knowledge of the lingo (and knowing the alphabet) I'm once again reassured that I did good by never moving over to the GCC full-time.

Anyway, hope things work out. If I've understood things correctly, you'll know come this coming weekend what your cash shortfall will be?

Really hoping that it covers you/ things work out. I'll check back in next weekend and see where things are at.

Spurs are out of it imo. If we get something out of Chelsea and Leeds get something out of the bin dippers then we have a good chance of 4th the bin dippers still have to Man U t and Chelsea are still in the champions league BFS and his baggies will be down before we play them

It’ll be important to get something from Chelsea now.
Also lets see how the others do, before making predictions, wouldn’t surprise me if Leeds get something from Liverpool and Brighton and West Brom are fighting for survival like Newcastle.
Ain’t over until the fat cunts start crying.

Sorry Mex I did not see the game I was walking around Abu Dhabi looking for an ATM they are few and far between. It is a really nice wide roads and airy not a sweat box like Doha

I read the report and we did well with 10 men and a patched up side. I think top 4 as well after Chelsea we have and easier run in the other contentders

Re: Stuck in Abu Dhabi temporary assistance requested
Exacty Mike I am well traveled but when everything falls over in one day like not getting a credit card I was told I was getting the day before and then finding out I had to pay 1750 for a demobisation flight also with family in mind it is a tad overwhelming when you have $2000 on they way.

Thanks to all those wishing me well and chucked money into the fund. Plan B is after I thought about stuff

Mike - exactly that.. there was a few comments on here that got my goat but I'm reality those that dare to risk understand when someone has come a cropper. This site has been amazing for that over the years. Its full of risk takers and empathetic people. Those that don't get it shouldn't be here. I see danny66 only every pops up when someone needs help..legends like that are what this site is. I speak from experience in needing help. Gavros will be smiling.. its a legacy.

Re: Stuck in Abu Dhabi temporary assistance requested
Glad you got it sorted. It's quite amazing how a few little hitches, when they happen singularly are insignificant yet coming along together can suddenly explode into a serious situation almost before you realise what is happening, leaving you completely shell-shocked.

Those who never step outside their comfort zones and experience this will never fully understand the process.

Anyhow. Get HS2 finished, whip Crossrail into shape and make sure Crossrail2 comes in on time and under budget.

Then next year we'll give you some proper work...

Good stuff Westham67
Really please it worked out and glad WHO could help.
Hope you did watch the game. We may have lost, but it was an excellent game, very exciting. We at no point looked like a team with a player less. There will, be lots of cunts on here moaning, but we played well and yes no points, but as a team we showed we can still get top 4.

Speaking of student and public sector union activist lefties, there used to be three tribes of the silly bastards back in the 80s/early 90s.

There were the football tops and jeans lot - Militant. Obviously they were daft buggers, but you could have a laugh with them, at least.

Then there were the Workers Revolutionary Party - (middle and upper middle class need only apply) in their crombie jackets and bovver boots.

Followed by the Socialist Workers Party in their quasi-Palestinian battle fatigues.

I might have mixed the last two up, though, in terms of their uniform not their background.

Looking back, they all seemed so sane and likeable compared to the Wokies we have today.
