Roy Hodgson to leave Palace at the end of the season
|
After 4 years there where they finished 11th, 12th & 14th and are currently 13th. At 73 he has managed 16 teams in eight countries in 45 years, including the likes of Inter Milan and Udinese, as well as the Switzerland, UAE and Finland national teams. And England where he won 3 of 11 tournament games.
Palace have an ageing squad with many players out of contract and probably not much money. Perfect opportunity for Frank Lampard

When managing England he was like a rabbit in headlamps, didn’t have a clue, completely star struck to the point of playing Gerrard in a back four.

I think palace have finished 12,11,14 and 12 in his 4 years. I think most teams would be happy with that. I’d wager that in a years time they may we’ll look back and regret this decision

Dyche would be a good choice They are in dangerous position .... ageing squad, lots of players out of contract, Eze out for the rest of the year probably with a ruptured achilles, Zaha probably looking for the exit again

He said "Why I'm here " at the press interview after the game.
Be remember for that.

If I was a Crystal Palace fan I'd be hoping for Sean Dyche.
He has been completely fucked over by the Burnley board

It has to be said his disastrous tenure as England manager has been brushed under the carpet this last week. Not only was his attitude after Iceland an absolute disgrace, his tournament record of 3 wins in 11 is something he should be ashamed of.

Yes, that 'nothing to do with me any more, guv' attitude at the press conference the day after the Iceland game having resigned was definitely his lowest point. Getting Fulham to a Europa league final and knocking out Juventus was probably the high point.
Saw a report that Lampard has dropped out of the reckoning for the Palace job. Would guess that he would be wanting a budget that matches his high opinion of himself.

Frankly I've never for given him for his shambolic management of England. For a man who generally comes across as erudite and urbane, the way he gormlessly refused to explain or apologise for such a disastrous end to a campaign was utterly disgraceful.
I can only hope that Croydon now give the job to Lampard to fuck up.

I see Eze ruptured his achilles so will miss a fair bit of next season. Not good news for Roy's replacement
Watching the highlights v Arsenal ..... Benteke and another Palace player should have been sent off. Strange decisions

Exactly that. Completely unacceptable attitude. I thought he was finished after that but to be fair he's done well at Palace.

I didn't like his attitude when at the press conference to explain why England had failed so miserably at the euros. "I dunno what I'm doing here", I thought that when you were appointed woy.
Cunt.
*other than that he's ok

On the subject of Lampard I see his playing career has been recognised by being inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
But of course most neutrals "hate" him according to some of the blinkered twats on here!

I was at a dinner party about 25 years ago. Roy was his wife's + 1 and I had no idea who he was..
He hardly spoke a word all night, then Tamsin Greig (yep, name dropping) asked politely what he did.
"I manage a football club", he replied. Tamsin smiled politely, thinking 'how quaint'.
"Would I have heard of it"?
"Possibly. Inter Milan".
They left soon after and I never got to speak to him other than 'could you pass the salt, please".
His wife was lovely. Very funny. And you could tell that she adored Roy.

Roy's a good bloke and had a more successful career than most outside the very top echelon.
Lampard's propensity to blame others in post match interviews and his refusal to give opposition managers / teams credit when it was due has contributed to him not being nearly as popular as some think. He's not good enough to manage a PL team, including Palace, and if he didn't have such a raging ego he's have realised that taking the Chelsea job was a complete farce.
