How technophobic/anti-technology are you? (Take 2)
Lets try again....

Just read something about a Japanese cyber-security minister who said he's never used a computer

Obviously that can't apply to anyone off here...

Met a couple old boys recently (50s+) who say they don't own a mobile phone

Remember someone off here ages ago saying the same.

So does anyone off here....

Not own a mobile?

Not own a TV?

Never driven a car?

Never been on a plane?

Anything similar?

This is related to West Ham cos of that time Harry Redknapp said he couldn't read.

Client in Oman insisted I get a smartphone (they paid). Still got it but it may as well be an old phone, with a dial and wired to the wall.

I NEVER take it out with me, wherever I go.

Also got a Nokia 217 Dual SIM for the two "foreign numbers I have but that also sits on the desk all day long looking like a black bar of chocolate.

No TV either, but several TB of TV shows & films on a NAS I never watch.

Have got 3 Raspberry Pis though and I quite like fucking about with those

I am not anti tech but just not that tech savvy being in my 50s. I am alright with most stuff until it goes wrong. However I have learned two great tips over the years. From my IT dept at work to turn it off and then turn it back on again. And from WHO to wipe your knob across the screen. Bit embarrassing in the open plan office mind.

Just to clarify I'm referring to smart phones, basic mobiles have been around for decades.

People in the 50s/60s will have had plenty of access to smart phones, they have been around for a while. People in their 50s will have been able to get a smart phone in their mid to late 30s.

I'm not anti technology, I embrace anything that saves time and effort. I love online banking. I changed my car recently so got sent a cheque for £16 by DVLA, no need to fuck around wasting time going into a bank, just open the app, enter the amount of the cheque, upload an image of it and it's banked.

Fair dues, makes sense tbf. Totally get the notion of "digital de-cluttering".

The blokes i can think of who don't own mobiles are 50+, suppose they didn't grow up with them or anything. But still gotta be a struggle in today's world to not own one.

(Worth mentioning they have ones given to them thru work that they only use for their jobs, and at least one of them "doesn't do" emails)

A bloke i knew about 10yrs ago said his wife had never been to central London or South London, they were both from Dagenham and in their 50s. Neither had been abroad either i don't think.

Are there still many people about like this?

Oh and met a bird once who'd apparently never been on a train, she was in her 20s

I’m 40.

Same as Jim C situation, someone always has to text me the final details as not on the group - but that suits me just fine, as I get the actual final information and not the 100 pointless messages it took to get to that point.

My mate is 30, a few years younger than me. I have to send him a text to confirm football arrangements as he is obvious not in the WhatsApp group.

I just bought a 20 year old Range Rover imported back into the UK from Japan. It has a cassette radio cd system. I found an old cassette and inserted it. It jammed immediately. I do love streaming audio on a smartphone.

Off grid totally, never post on internet and wouldn't have a microwave in the house.

I have no social media and won’t use WhatsApp.

The amount of constant messages I see people getting and these stupid fucking groups for this and that. Couldn’t be bothered with that shit.

If you call or message someone it should be for a purpose.

A friend and former colleague still has a basic Nokia phone, it only makes/receives calls or text messages. His argument is that's what they were invented for.

He also refuses to do online banking.
