The Hundred
Thought I’d have a look and see how it was going.

Just switched on to see some mad transgender in green dancing on a stage to really shit pop music.

Shame I missed the first innings, 135-6 looks pretty entertaining.

Gooooooo London.

Re: The Hundred
Have always said anything that gets kids off their arses and playing sport is a good thing especially girls.
Interesting that THE HUNDRED has used the double headers to get the women in front of big crowds and inspiring them and girls watching.
As far as I know thats not something the IPL does at all (its all about MONEY) with any female teams and the Big Bash has womens teams that from time to time have a double header with the men but are generally separate.

I dont have a problem with that but talk of equal pay and pretending that people are paying say £30 a ticket to watch the women is nonsense.
Womens cricket is improving but until they can get their own sponsors, generate similar tv deals or have people paying Lords Test type prices to see just them they should be grateful to be making some sort of living out of the game.

As said this competition HAS to be in the school holidays and will take another step forward next year when more (BETTER) overseas players join.
From what I saw people in the grounds fairly quickly adopted THEIR teams & those watching at home who dont identify with any of them (Essex , other yokels) are effectively being told by the ECB to DO ONE.

Re: The Hundred
I have tried watching it on TV but despite all the big hits and wicket taking, I find it lacks the excitement and tension (not to mention the subtlety) of an average one-day match. There is no historical supporter allegiance to any of the franchise teams, so I find myself totally unconcerned as to how a team or a particular player performs.

Re: The Hundred
By the way, as someone who actually attends live cricket matches, if you judged the crowd at any England mens international game be it a test match, ODI or T20 after the first 30 minutes play it wouldn't be anywhere near a full house either.

Re: The Hundred
The Hundred has been a great success for womens cricket.

The irony is without COVID the womens Hundred games would have been in county grounds with a few hundred watching, now it is in the thousands. It's all about exposure to the audience the competition is primarily aimed at, which isn't those thinking we are still living in Victorian times.

Having the games on during the school holidays has ensured that mums and dads can bring their kids to watch cricket during the day and the double headers with a small gap between the two games has opened up a whole new adult audience who may not previously have seen any womens cricket before, which was another one of the competition aims.

It's been much better than I thought it would be and I can only see it coming back stronger next season.

It has done Jake Lintott a power of good too.

He was a teacher and took a punt for a last chance at being a pro. Picked up a short contract with Warwickshire, was a last minute choice for the Southern Braves, picked up a bunch of wickets, won the bloody thing and got a CPL contract out if it too.

Re: The Hundred
They started the tournament with a stand alone womens game.
The suspicion was that not many tickets were paid for.
To get a realistic view they should switch some double headers next season and play the mens game first.
Half time in the womens game would then give a more realistic crowd number.

Re: The Hundred
The BBC say it has been a success, well they would.

17,000 for the women’s final? Bullshit.

They take the reading at the half way mark of the women’s match, they should do it after the first 20 balls.

And naturally being the BBC they criticised the pay disparity. Usual woke bullshit from our states broadcaster.

Run out by a bloke from Singapore.

Amusing moment with his old Perth Scorchers team mate deciding the tournament.
Nice step forward for Tim David. Smacked a couple of 50 over centuries in his first week with Surrey in the downgraded county competition.
Wins THE HUNDRED & now signed for the IPL with RCB.

Livingstone bosses the tournament and becomes global superstar.

Might be the first $3m man at IPL.

Re: The Hundred
Now that its all over I will be interested to see the viewing figures & the gate takings (real money not freebies).
Obviously it will be back next year and hopefully in a less COVID world most of the originally contracted players will turn up.

Best news is that Josh Inglis's performances have put him in the Australian t20 World Cup squad ahead of Alex Carey.
