There is an elongated history to taking the knee that is political. That cant be eradicated . So, no matter what the footballers say, and it looks 100% in good faith, that history remains.
Unfortunately they are now in a place where they cant really change. In some ways I’m ok with this as it directly confronts the issue but, now you have two intransigent sides arguing their point and not listening. Where have yoo heard that before?

The real intention of the gesture was plastered over their shirts and is written in block capitals on Sky Sports every match I watch. Anyone with an ounce of political literacy knows the context of this gesture and knows the toxicity of that context: Critical Race Theory.

If they are educated they will appreciate that correlation doesn't mean causation. The educated having certain opinions is more likely to be a product of their social class, not their education. One of the best educations available in this country is Eton and then Oxford. You seem to be implying that old Etonians opinions are to be held in higher regard than comprehensive school educated bricklayer.
As for cool opinions. I am always a little suspicious of people who only hold fashionable opinions. It could be a sign of lack of principles. Someone who needs to be liked more than they need to be right.
