Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
Just seen Avro who I went with in June has gone bust so I guess I have to wait until I see who Ofgem put me with!

Oddly enough I looked at switches in interest after Martin Lewis said it was all unprecedented and only two fixed price tariffs were online and both were for over £200 per month.

I believe that they honour credit balances but anyone had this situation and know if the "new provider" honours the tariff price you were on or do you go on standard or their own fixed price tariff regardless if it's higher than what we were currently paying?

I guess my lethargy in sticking with SSE instead of switching to Snowflake Power or Thunberg Energy might pay off.

Our company fixes electricity & gas for 3 years at a time over our sites and was involved in sorting the post 30 Sept position early. Understand if we'd delayed and gone to market this week we'd be paying £500k more.
YOU'RE WELCOME

The roads near me are fucking rammed! People queuing at every garage for fuel.

Does no one read the actual story below the headline? There is no fuel shortage and BP shut 10 garages.

FFS this country has lost its backbone! This lot would have surrendered after a week during the 2nd world war.

This is the type of behaviour that the "forward thinking", liberal, UK education system has been set up to deliver.

It was evident - but controlled - in the 1960s (when I was at school) but given free rein from the early 70s onwards.

We now have a scenario Pavlov would easily identify as one of his experiments let out of the lab.

Top Tip:

All those bog rolls you panic bought at the start of the Covid epidemic can absorb an awful amount of fluid.

Soak them in petrol to provide a virtually limitless source of fuel for you and your family - and laugh heartily as you drive past the stupid people walking because they've run out of 4-Star.

Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
Mike - Was with Shell and they said I required a Smart Meter. They never got around to it due to long waiting lists. Following year I switched to First Utility and again it was a requirement but again they never got round to it. Went back to Shell in 2019 and they never even asked!

Syd, more than likely - But the issues people seem to be having being transferred to other providers has been non existent for me, which in itself is worth the extra few quid mate.

That would suggest you were paying way too much in the first place.

Mike Oxsaw 1:09 Fri Sep 24
I was with Utility Point and did not have a smart meter. Waiting until the switchable 2nd Generation are on offer. Plus don’t need a smart meter anyway as I somehow manage to possess the skills to read the normal one myself and also notice when the fucking lights are on.

Mike Oxsaw 1:09 Fri Sep 24
Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
I'm assuming that everyone who opted to go with one of these new energy suppliers had to have a "smart" meter installed as part of the deal.

That means that if they move to one of the "established" energy companies it will push up their % of smart meters installed and therefore help them hit the government's smart meter target/avoid any related penalties.

Hay while the sun shines, and all that.

Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
That's interesting Block. I heard you would get transferred across and end up on that companies "cheapest" tariff which would probably be variable. Suspect it depends on what tariff you are on to start with.

Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
Firm we were using has gone bust also, but we've been transferred across to British Gas on the same tariff.

Was pretty easy to be honest.

Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
Zico because companies make more money from the people who just stick with them than they lose from people who switch.

Re: Anyone else's energy firm gone bust?
Is anyone here an expert on economics? What I have never understood is how companies (not just energy) treat their current customers like shit with price hikes, pushing many to switch, whilst offering deals (not at the moment obviously) to brand new customers. In my naïve logic if say Company A offered for example the cheapest price for both new “and” current customers their customer base would be massive. So for example 40 million customers on £100 per month would generate far more than 10 million customers on £150 per month. Is it just pure greed or is there an economical answer to this>?
