The Rolling Stones
|
Sixty! 60 years since a chance encounter between Jagger & Richards on Dartford Station brought them together musically.
Fair play, and have belted out some good tunes over the years, a bit of shit as well mind and been one of the best bands to see live...and still going.
Take a bow.
Who would have thought though, that the bad boys of Rock would have gone Woke and stopped playing some of their tunes so as not to offend and outrage though?

Better than The Beatles but on the same level as The Kinks or The Who. Not as good a blues rock band as Cream.
Gimme Shelter is a fucking great track though. Would make Swiss's top 30.

As for the Stones, brilliant until Mick Taylor quit.
With Ronnie Wood they just became a cabaret act.

soldo, ashcroft had got clearance from the record label (I think it was decca) but forgot about ABKCO (Klein's publishing company) and they were forced to sell the lyric credit to Klein for £1, with Klein getting all the revenue from the track and whatever percentage from album sales and the numerous adverts, promotional shit and other stuff it appears in

Fair do's the Miike...but as said bit rich with the amount of Blues stuff they have nicked over the years... yes and I know they promoted Muddy waters and co but still the whole of their earlier stuff was just blues covers... oh and I love the Stones...

Well someone did Hermit... the Verve never got a cent from that song... app' the original deal that was AGREED was 50/50 split but somehow Stones went and got a court agreement of 100% once they knew the song was going to be a classic... apparently done Ashcroft for $5m.
c&p
Billboard revealed that Ashcroft has only ever received $1,000 in publishing money from 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', which was paid as part of the settlement deal. Billboard estimates the song's total publishing revenue over the years at almost $5 million.
So someone got it

The Stones are one of a kind. Phenomenal.
As for that Bitter Sweet thing. I never knew about that, or more likely, I knew and completely forgot. As a result I looked it up to see what the fuss is about.
Take that sample from The Last Time out of it and it isn’t the same song. That being said, from what I read it wasn’t the Stones who sued him anyway and they didn’t earn out of it.

I loved it during lockdown when they had a virtual gig which Lady Gaga got everyone up for.
They all had to play in isolation therefore they had to do their own filming with nobody to wash their bums for them.
Keith sat on his sofa with a big black book on the coffee table in front of him and a half finished beer in a pint glass. Mr rock God himself. It's kind of a shame that he didn't know about the lack of depth of field on his iPhone and you could quite clearly see a steaming hot cup of tea on the side of the sofa behind him!
I'm only glad that Charlie had the good grace to go 10 years into the pantomime.

Every album is about 70% dross, like they've just gone into a studio, jammed a few songs out while the tape was rolling. There's such a lot of filler, for me anyway.
Then somehow they pull a brilliant song out of their arses and make a video with a famous actor or someone and make sure their crusty old Mooch's are not in it for too long. This is the kind of thing that I mean. Great video, great song despite them being a hundred years old.
