Walking to school, Gareth Edwards, probably the best scrum half in the world at the time, would, in his modest motor, drive past me every morning on his way to work at an insurance company.

How things have changed.

Given what happened to his daughter & brother it's not too surprising he hasn't always come across as "nice"

I met Hurst three times. One of those times, was playing cricket against him. Always pleasant, friendly and polite.

They don’t call him Geoff “Not Nice” Hurst for no good reason.

Sir Geoff was quite not nice for quite a long time. Now he has sorted out his long-term depression he seems to be perfectly nice again.

Maybe, but was never not nice when he came through the building, was probably the quieter of the 3 though.

?i understand the Bobby Moore angle of not being celebrated, mainly by his own fucking club but SIR Geoff Hurst, I believe made a career out of it so I dont think he needed more doing for him PLUS he isnt the nicest person actually.

Re: Geoff Hurst book "Eighty at Eighty" interview
I’d regularly see Geoff, Bobby and Martin in the building where I worked in Chadwell Heath, must’ve been about 1980. The Motor Plan insurance office in the same building. All of them would walk through the reception with a nod , smile and good morning. Absolute Gents.
I couldn’t get my head round or understand how West Ham’s World Cup winners and captain were always around and working with the same people that I did.
Being honest, was too interested in the girls in that building, some absolute winners.

Tragic that the country didn’t celebrate our winners correctly.
