Apologies if already stated, but the Swindon v Man City match coverage has just come on and my mind has been cast back to Swindon away matches over the years.

The County Ground was always a great place to visit and very old school. My favourite match there has to be the 3-1 win in 92 which enabled us to leapfrog Portsmouth and set up the last match v Cambridge.

Mansfield was the earliest of giant killings that WHU had suffered

I was in total shock all week

Re. Bristol City - I went to the Cup game there seven years ago. It was notable for Diafra Sakho withdrawing from the Senegal squad citing a back injury and then playing in this game and scoring the winner. Both BCFC and the Senegalese FA wanted us thrown out of the cup.

Grapes.

Mansfield beat us 3-0 in the league cup roundabout 1970.

I remember playing Bristol City un the FA cup back in 69. The new Chicken run had just been opened and it was the first time my old man took me to a different part if the ground away from 'our spot' on the North bank.

My first WHU game - Carlisle 0-1 West Ham November 74

Carlisle went up and Manchester United went down the previous season, they beat Chelsea, Boro and Spurs in their first 3 games to go top of the table

I remember going to Luton, Notts County, Notts Forest, Charlton away all late 70's or early 80s. Frankfurt and Tblisi at home.

We played Coventry and Bristol City back then, not if since? Mansfield rings a bell?

Hereford. 1974, I think. Took a replay to beat them.

I have been to Colchester twice in recent years for preseason friendlies. Once at Layer Road and the other at their new gaffe, just off of the A12.

Yeah we played Colchester away a few years ago in a friendly. Cazim-Richards played for us that day. And the bloke from Southend. Moshi or something.

We have never played Colchester in a league game.
That 1959 game was the last of 6 games against them in the 1950's in the Essex Professional Cup. It was a semi final and we beat Orient 4-1 in the final.

I've definitely done Colchester away in a friendly in the past 25 years, but I guess only competitive games will appear on most stats.

Very surprised about Colchester.

Google saying we played them in a friendly in 2015? No further details though

According to the http://www.westhamstats.info/ website we last played Luton in 1994. Isn't that twenty eight years rather than eighteen?

No, I didn’t go to the Slovan match and don’t remember anything about it.

I remember that Giancarlo Antognoni played for Fiorentina at the time of those matches. He was like a blond Trevor Brooking and was the darling of Italian football during the mid 70’s. I think he scored in their home leg.

I’m glad that we no longer play Oldham or Luton anymore. Their plastic pitches always gave them an unfair advantage and they regularly beat us on them.

We also haven’t played Sheffield Wednesday for some years. An away trip there was always quite good.
