Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
|
Lots of talk here that he is about to invade Ukraine.
NATO and the US won’t get involved but heavy sanctions have been threatened and Putin has threatened ending all diplomatic ties with the west.
Latest is that Putin will stage an attack making it look like Ukraine starts the conflict.
What’s being reported over there?
Is it about to kick off?

You're making yourself look very silly now.
As I said, re-read your own post. The answer is there.
In the meantime, I'll leave you to demonstrate how thick you are.

As at 10.50 today, the UK is generating 43% of its electricity through wind, solar and hydro. It's an unusually ideal day for wind, but it's not sunny and it's rather cold. We have ramped up biomass generation to 6% and coal has returned, without protest, to meet an extra 2%.
On a cold day in February, we are only generating 19% of our electricity through gas. There will be days in the summer when that drops to zero.
Prices will go up and down, as prices do. I suspect they will eventually fall to levels about twice what we have been used to. That's bad, but it's not a catastrophe. Russia's energy weapon has been fired and it can't fire it again.

Unless you can point to supplies of gas an oil that previously didn’t exist, thanks for agreeing with me. There is no extra gas and oil.

I dont think anyone is saying prices will go up, just that they wont come down.
Global supply of both gas and oil is tight and will remain so. Global demand is forecast to increase 2023.
There is no reason for prices to come down if this war ends as joyo stated.

Re-read your post. Have a little think about it. Then come back and tell us why you are an idiot.
I'll put you out of your misery a bit later, if you can't work it out.

It isn’t extra supply. If China is now sourcing their gas from Russia, whereas previously they weren’t, it just means they’re not buying from elsewhere any more

China will satisfy any extra gas demands from Russia, who, as you say, no longer have much of a European market.
So there's your extra supply right there.
What will happen is exactly what happened with oil. Some temporary disruption to supply chains but no difference in the actual supply.

'Russian oil/gas is already removed from the 'western market' so why would the price come down?'
That makes no sense. 'Why would the price go up?' is the only logical question that follows your first sentence.
European gas prices are approx 80% off their peaks and oil never really moved much anyway.

There's no extra supply of oil/gas coming onboard anytime soon. With China re-opening and the western economies looking better than had been expected, demand will go up.
what do we think continued tight supply and growing demand will do to price?
blackrock predicted that oil will average $100 a pbrl this year with prices set to go up Q3/Q4.

When Russia lose the war and oil/gas prices drop they will truly be fucked. The Russian federation will definitely break up,will take a good few years but it is doomed.

But, looking on the bright side, the US can now supply LNG to Europe in place of Russian gas.
So that must be a bit of an unexpected gain for the US economy.
