Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Lots of talk here that he is about to invade Ukraine.

NATO and the US won’t get involved but heavy sanctions have been threatened and Putin has threatened ending all diplomatic ties with the west.

Latest is that Putin will stage an attack making it look like Ukraine starts the conflict.

What’s being reported over there?

Is it about to kick off?

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Anyway...

A civilian convoy of cars heading to pick up relatives trying to flee Russian occupied territory in Ukraine has been hit by Russian forces near the city of Zaporizhzhia, with initial reports saying at least 25 people were killed and 50 people injured. Footage posted on social media showed a horrific scene with dead and injured people lying on a road on the south-eastern outskirts of the city.
The governor of Zaporizhzhia region, Oleksandr Starukh, said in a statement: “The enemy launched an attack on a civilian convoy and the outskirts of the city. People were standing in line to leave for the occupied territory to pick up their relatives and to deliver aid. There are dead and wounded. Emergency services are at the site.
Volodymyr Marchuk, a spokesperson for the governor’s office, explained to the Guardian what had happened:

It’s a logistics hub to allow people go into the temporarily Russian occupied territories. The Russians only accept 150 cars a day so that’s why we created a programme, where people could come register and get their number in line.

So at 7.15 in the morning there were a large number of cars waiting for the turn to cross, mostly people who want to go to and drop off aid to relatives and maybe pick up people who want to leaver on the way back.

They hit that queue with an S-300 missile. There’s no doubt it is a deliberate war crime. They always say they are aiming at a military object and hit something else. But there are no military objects near that site. That’s why there’s no doubt that’s it’s a terrorist act.

Well one thing Ivan does seem it's good at is hitting Civilians in cars... Bravo

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Russia isn't really one country is it. It's like the UK except the ties are not so long lasting, the ethnic groups are much more distinct and the area is much bigger.

We all know how much the Scots hate the English so it wouldn't be surprising to see that replayed out there. Those regions are apparently disproportionately affected by the draft. Imagine the anger with the sweaties if we were at war and only drafted them. Obviously there would be as many of them drunk as the Russians seem to be but the short to medium term prospects of keeping those regions happy deteriorate quite rapidly.

That's being said by the time Putin is out of office he would have achieved one of his main aims which is to cause political havoc in Europe.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11265915/Furious-conscripts-turn-commander-officer-beaten-saying-cannon-fodder.html

'There was a Lt Colonel walking among [the newly-mobilised], telling them: 'You are all cannon fodder, you are facing slaughter'.

'There was a fight, the colonel's face was smashed.

'They could hardly pull them apart. One person fell sick [after the cannon cannon fodder threat].

'Two ambulances rushed there in one hour. Many people felt sick, many were in tears.

'One tried to escape, they caught him. It's a f***ing nightmare what's happening there .

'There were 1,080 people there now, in Rubin [sports palace]. They'll end up in knife fights, it's a complete mess there.

'All of them are drunk. Every single one of them.'

Meanwhile, another piece of footage showed what appeared to be a female quartermaster talking to new recruits and advising them to bring tampons.

The sanitary products can be used to plug bullet wounds and stop bleeding in the absence of medical kit, the woman tells the new recruits.

'They won't give it to us?' one of the new recruits asks.

'It's all our own, boys,' the woman shouts back. 'You will be given a uniform and armour, nothing else.'

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
I suppose it is for the protection of this mighty Red Army that the residents of those occupied parts of Ukraine voted to be annexed into the Russian Federation,

Does anyone still have any doubts as to why the Ukrainians are fighting like they are? Or why they want to join NATO and the EU? Or why NATO, the EU and pretty much the rest of the world is treating this annexation as an outrage?

US officials have weighed sanctioning Russia’s Rosatom over the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. But in the absence of alternatives to the state-controlled fuel giant, power supplies to hundreds of millions of people across globe would be at risk of disruption.

HIMARS range are good against fixed positions like ammunition and communication and barracks but no good against moving troops or targets. Supply of missiles is an issue. Each missile is 150k and they can't make them quick enough.
