Decent Dawson stat.
Picked this up from Crooks weekly piece on the BBC site. A bit of positivity!

“Dawson has scored 19 goals in the Premier League since the start of 2014-15 - more than any other central defender - with 14 of those coming via headers.“

Queue the posts slagging him off as a poor defender….

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Dawson like most players in general benefits from playing reguarly and in a settled back four.
You don't have to have the best defenders in the world if you are organised and well drilled (like the old Arsenal back line)
He will still be exoposed one on one at times as will most of them but other than signing Virgil Van Doyle there isnt a lot that can be done about that.
Zouma more moblle and reads the game better so on the whole a positive signing.

Probably my favourite West ham CB partnership in my lifetime was Martin. & Galey as both had a touch of class on the ball about them particuarly Gale bringing it out of defence.
Ferdinand also exceptional in that respect.

Des Walker was an outstanding player in terms of pace and marking (apart from Mcavennie) and in many ways never been replaced by England.

Carroll played 248 games for us?

Don't you mean he was at the club when that many games were played, he just didn't play in most of them?

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Only a lunatic thought Carroll was a proper striker after his first season. I've had more kids than he scored goals in the last 5 years. That stat was correct until recently anyway...I'm sure i'll overtake him soon.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
What I find with alot of fans is that they only respect someone for what they came in as. They will never respect them for the job they are actually doing.
If the player ever does something that reminds them of what they came in as they will just moan saying "he's not a real xyz and he's shit etc..".

the reverse is also true.
Haller was a 45m player but didnt play like one for us and people still moan that we shouldn't have sold him.
Antonio has scored more goals for us than Caroll yet some fans never had a go at Caroll when he wasn't scoring etc.. and still see him as a real striker and Antonio as just a backup.

Carol's West Ham record:
248 appearances, 54 goals, 22 assists

Antonio's West Ham record:
183 appearances: 54 goals, 25 assists

I suppose its just the psychology of it.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
I'm not saying he is NOT a good defender.

But a CB goal scoring record is completely irrelevant when talking about is ability to defend.

If you played Jermaine Defoe at CB he would be shocking but could probably rack up more goals than 14 in that time.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Dawson was signed after we pretended to try and buy players like Fofana as a squad filler ... a 4th centre back who might play 6-10 games a season.
Had a look this morning and he has started 51 games and will probably end the season on close to 65 starts.

He has exceeded all expectations as a loan player then £2m signing. If you want a better player you have to pay for them.
Of course he has limitations but I am not going to criticise him for not being Virgil Van Dijk

Eerie, that’s hilarious.

Especially for a pointless needy cunt who has to be told he’s right, even when he’s wrong, on a daily basis.

Now run along, Little Miss Insecure.

Question

Is Dawson better than James Collins was in his prime?

They would both run through brick walls for the cause are prone to making the odd mistake and struggle agsinst top opposition.
For me Dawson shades it because of his goalscoring exploits.

I think most people would call you something that rhymes with maverick.

I really like Dawson and I really like Fornals. Just call me a maverick.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Pound for pound the best goal scoring CB. to think Burnley wanted £45 million for Tarkowski. There's no way that Dawson is worth twenty times less then Tarkowski.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Makes the odd mistake like his own goals last year that count him out as first team. Excellent backup though. Moyes is right to identify he wants better CBs, unfortunately Moyes is crap at getting what he wants.

I think Rice is just about the only member of the squad (maybe Ogbonna too) who hasn't been slagged off to high heaven by at least one or two people on here in the last 12 months.

He has been mate, many times. I would point you in the direction of the thread when he signed as a starter.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
Eerie has he been "slagged off to high heaven", moreso than Fornals?

He's surprised many if not all of us, I didn't expect him to be as consistent s he has been and it's been a pleasant surprise. That said we do need to get a better partner for Zouma in the summer

Good solid Pro, someone you’d want in the trenches with you.

Re: Decent Dawson stat.
He's a bit like a budget John Terry (although clearly Terry was on a different level) with some of his qualities, aside from the major difference that he seems like a really good bloke and not an utter cunt.
