Another season in Europe is what we need. And to continuously challenge for European places every year. It was always going to be tougher this year balancing Thursday nights and Sundays.

Plenty of clubs have 1 good season (Southampton, Swansea etc), then fall back into mid table or relegation.

So we're happy to finish one place below where we are now? Not for me. And let's not forget (although many have) why we moved in the first place.

Astounding is a bit much, but finishing 7th would represent a great season.

Bollocks, I'm not having that. it would represent a decent season, but 7th an astounding performance? No fucking chance.

Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool
You've got to be content with finishing 7th. I certainly would be.

I'll still have that lingering feeling of "what if...?" like I did last season, which will take a bit of the gloss off of it.

If only we got a striker (and a left back).....

"Those who doubt Griff0's opinion that we are not good enough for top 4,ask this question.

Apart from Rice, which of our players would walk into Liverpool,City or Chelsea's teams at the expense of someone already there?."

YES, WITH 3 SUPERIOR SQUADS ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO FINISH FOURTH

* counts on fingers*
*pulls out abacus*
*looks confused*

Personally I think 7th would be an astounding performance given our European adventure but it MUST be the catalyst for a major squad improvement in the summer.
Starting by announcing D RICE is not for sale at any price

It'll be great if we get to May 1st (the Arsenal home game) with a shout to finish 4th still.

I'd love to wipe the smiles off their faces. And I agree with what wansteadman says. I fucking hate they way they push the boundaries of the rules, like Villa seemed to do last weekend.

I’m sorry but arsenals antics against us were shocking and the icing on the cake was when arteta tried to roll a player back on the pitch to waste time

Trunds

They threw an interesting FACT last night about arsenal. Against other teams in the top 5 they are played 6 , lost 6.

So against everyone else, they are
P21 W16 D3 L2 - 51 points

For us against teams outside the top 5
P22 W12 D6 L4 - 42 points

Too many silly dropped points. Escapes attention because we don't tend to do it in bunches so it never translates as a loss of form, but over the course of the season it catches up with you in the end.
Not even convinced arsenal are any better than us, they've just taken care of what they need to care of better than we have so far.

Gutless referee allowing Liverpool to foul dive and play every timewasting and dirty trick in the book

Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool
If you disregard Moyes's dreadful squad management, then gifting Man Utd 6 points put an end to us finishing 4th.

We have to pick up points from the teams around us.

Hatred and Griffin are both right.

It would be great to have our REAL rivals back in the premier league.

Those who doubt Griff0's opinion that we are not good enough for top 4,ask this question.

Apart from Rice, which of our players would walk into Liverpool,City or Chelsea's teams at the expense of someone already there?.

No shame in this,we simply are'nt at that level.

If we were to win those two games, I'd say that puts us back in the conversation for 4th.

Spurs game in hand is against Arsenal. Arsenal's other game in hand is against Chelsea.

Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool
Based on our squad size (14 in reality who play in the first 11) , the injuries, number of games and remaining fixtures , we will do well to finish 7th above Wolves.

I suspect 8th and that will still be a good season ( based on the last 60 years :-) ) but a disappointment for most of course as we have been top 6 for so long. Clubs that used COVID to postpone games when they had injuries will prosper as cheats often do.

Only upside might be the realisation that we have to get 4 or 5 quality players in this summer to stay near the top next season. Then again Sullivan is probably happy with just staying in the league :-(

That was the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan.

Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool
We need to beat both of Arse and Spurs in our run in to stand any chance at 6th, especially given their games in hand on us. Tough one coming up this sunday.

Manuel 4:31 Thu Mar 17
Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool
I'd bite your hand off for 6th as that would mean finishing above Wolves, Spurs still. Still a fair way to go.

And just to add a final layer of tedium - since the end of January, we have 11 points from 6 games. The exact same number as we took from our first 6 games.

Re: Arsenal vs Liverpool

We have 48 points from 29 games.
Since January 1st we have 17 points from 10 games = 1.7 points per game
Prior to January 1st we had 31 points from 19 games = 1.6 points per game

There's been no drop off or downturn in our form since Jan 1st. We just haven't been quite good enough across the season.

To get really dull about it:
August to October - 10 games, 20 points
November to December - 9 games, 11 points
January to now - 10 games, 17 points

Of course, it matters who you play if you break things down into smaller batches of games. But that works both ways, and when everyone was getting carried away with the league table after 10 games we were dropping points in a very friendly start that was always likely to bite us in the arse.

Anyway, point being that the missed opportunity was far greater in the summer than in January. That was the obvious- and much easier - time to buy a striker and we decided to spend 25 million on Vlasic instead. Nothing against him particularly but about 8th in terms of priority of what we needed.
