Lefty - As I said one post down he might be selling Benrahma to recoup funds to replace him? is it that hard to get your head around?

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Any chance someone could add Areola to the 'players signed' section?

If we sign Danjuma (hopefully), then he is the replacement for the already departed Yarmolenko.

We shouldn't be selling Benrahma.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Selling Benrahma will also be about recouping funds for other players, not sure who'd want him though apart from Brentford, or maybe the 3 clubs that come up.

I don't disagree, but I don't think Moyes has ever really rated him. I reckon he'll be gone by the end of the window.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Be mad to let Benrahma go, need depth and he did contribute 17 goals and assists last year no matter what people think of him

You make some points which are fair, finishing 7th doesn't tell the whole story, missed opportunity in January, too cautious etc.

I don't think however there is a chance he'll be gone by Christmas as you've said in one of your posts below, unless somehow were bottom of the league like we were under Pellegrini in 2019 - which seems unlikely.

I sort of agree on Lingard, but if signed I still think he'll produce more than Lanzini who is currently holding that position in the team. So while we could sign better, I think he does improve the first team as it stands.

You've pointed out he screwed up the best opportunity in decades, but does he at least deserve credit for getting us in that position...even if he did ultimately fuck it up. We haven't had a manager that's done anything like that since Pardew took us to the cup final.

For me I'd give last season 7/10, which isn't bad, but it could have been the best season in about 40+ years. I think Moyes realises it though and that came out a bit in the press conference after Brighton.

Good start to the transfer window, unlike last year we've already got a couple over the line and look like were lining up a 40m winger. Hoping this level of ambition is a sign that he's going to have a proper go this season.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell Benrama or Diop.

Assume Benrahma will be sold then.

Can't make my mind up on this Danjuma, his name sounds like it could be Dutch for Dan James.

Fabrizio Romano just tweeted we’re pushing ahead with move for danjuma just under 45m euros apparently

Errrrmmm last season at the Boleyn?

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Stubbo, you’re not exactly sticking your neck on the line by saying that Moyes will take us backwards. In fact we’re probably massive favourites to do just that, especially with Newcastle about to join the big six at the top.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
It's just my opinion that will either be borne out or it won't.

Can't deny for a minute the fantastic things he's done for the club compared to where we were two seasons ago. But it's business, and his job is to not make fundamental and obvious mistakes...he can lose games of course, but making mistakes in decision making is what will cost him.

His in game management is sub par. His substitutions are at best reactionary. He's totally risk averse to the point of constraining his scope of achievement. And he screwed up the best opportunity any West Ham manager has had in decades...yes he carved out the opportunity....but beating 5 players and then sticking it wide with the keeper to beat doesn't put much credit in the bank.

My prediction is that having taken us forward, he'll now start taking us backwards. We'll become ever more workmanlike, ever less creative, ever more predictable, and he'll leave with us back in the lower half of the table.

Just a prediction. Perfectly reasonable for others to totally disagree....it's a message board...if we all had the same opinion it would be pretty dull.

It’s not being outraged it’s being absolutely flabbergasted how fucking stupid some people on here are.

Yes the last couple of months of last season were disappointing but if you just judge it on the whole season then it’s been great. Judge it over 2 seasons and it’s been amazing.

The last thing we need is another change of manager. We need consistency. It’s the only way to build.

I’m fed up with sacking managers every couple of years and hoping the next fresh thing will be better. It’s just not worked that way.

If we sacked Moyes now, the footballing world would think we had gone crazy.

I think there is plenty of wind up merchants on here so I would never take any of them seriously.

My view is how exactly are we doing?

Alright.

Stubbo is entitled to his opinion, I don't agree with him about Moyes getting sacked. Though I do agree about the end of the season.

I.am.amused though by how outraged some are....

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
I know I will be the exception and most probably lampooned for saying I will judge Moyes over 5 or 6 years assuming his West Ham do not go on a Pellegrini or Bilic style run of defeats. Moyes said there will be ups and downs when getting the job second time around and that it would take perhaps as many as 5 seasons to turn us around into a club that consistently competes at the top end of the table. I think the last 2 seasons we overachieved on that journey with the squad we had and it is why there was a big dip from just after Xmas. One of those “downs” Moyes warned of.

With an owner like Sullivan it’s going to take a while to build the strong quality in depth squad. But that’s what’s needed when you are working with a budget / spending that is 9th or 10th best in the league. I do agree this window is pivotal though. Almost all inherited dead wood will be gone and the spine of the team should be there.

If we were able to spend 100 - 120 mill in successive windows then maybe another manager should be sought but under GSB it is unlikely to be that level. Incremental build is tge only way with our owners and Moyes seems the best for for that. Potter has been doing a similar thing at Brighton on less budget and possibly the only other manager that could do it with or I can think of anyway:-)

But Potters Brighton had an awful run of 12 games with only 1 win. That’s what happens when your squad lacks tge quality in depth.

Let’s see if Moyes can complete tge transformation. Just my opinion :-)

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Stubbo is one of those football supporters that would have been calling for Fergies head in his early Man U years.

If you cannot see that we finally have a manager that wants the best for the club and will not recruit just for the sake of it then you should find another sport to follow. The Jan window is a joke no managers worth their salt dip into it unless something out of the ordinary becomes available. Growm men crying because we haven't bought 11 new players by the beginning of July need to have a hard look at themselves. As for Moyes being sacked a manager that's taken us onto Europe in successive seasons and got us to European semi final, i can only think that you have been supporting the club for 5 minutes if you want that. Comparing Moyes to Hughton is laughable.

swindon hammer 11:35 Wed Jun 29
Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Graham Potter has done a decent job at Brighton but he’s not overachieved as much as Moyes has done over the past 2 seasons.

A stupid comparison.

Pellegrini was appointment manager 4 years ago and spent 150 million plus on players In his time here. If he had taken us to two top 7 finishes in the Premier League and a semi final of a European competition we would all be saying what a great job he has done and would be clamouring for him to be given a new contract.

Moyes actually did achieve that on half the money Pellegrini spent and yet there are fucking mugs on here thinking that’s not good enough!!

West Ham United, the club that’s hadn’t won a trophy in 42 years, barely played in Europe in that time either and has also been relegated 4 times as well.

Dumb and Delusional. That’s what some on here are.
