Shit sports with overhyped stars
Reading about Lord Coe and sticking his nose in about our stadium and athletics.

Got me thinking of the sports stars who would be fuck all without people who do not give a fuck about their sport other than supporting them during the main events. Rest of the time they are no bodies and one man and a dog turn up.

Athletics
Rowing

these 2 spring to mind with Coe and Redgrave.

what other sports would you add to the list.

Surf, don’t sit here in your homeland and dare have a pop at a sport created by the non indigenous Australians that should & will have no care of what we think of it…..otherwise the resident Fauxstralian will reveal his massive non justified chip he’s got and take it out on the colonial sport of rugby, I never understand why cricket gets away with it though as it basically represents everything he hates about his country of origin…..

Interesting point of view Sven.

How many points are awarded in rugby for failing to hit that big old in goal area?

Re: Shit sports with overhyped stars
Aussie rules football. They have 2 posts plus 2 either side of them so if you miss the main one you can still get points for a nearly.

As opposed to rugby union which has a 70m wide try line and in goal area up to 22m deep meaning you can flop your quivering mess of a body on the ball in an area of up to 1,540 sq m to gain the MAJOR score on offer.

Wrestling. Only exists because it gives fat kids a sport that they can be good at

It’s the greatest game in the world by a huge distance but the way it’s run and administered as a sport from top to bottom is absolutely fucking shit and it’s dragged the game way way down from what it should be. Federations, leagues, owners, financiers, agents, broadcasters, print and broadcast media, loads of the players, all greedy money grabbing scum for whom the actual love of game is secondary to the benefits and money it brings them.

It’s no wonder so many fans are cynical about it. I love West Ham and the game of football but as a sport I detest it.

Here we go again, saying on a football forum that football is shit. It's the best sport in the world by an absolute country mile. Sod off and watch Rugby.

Have to agree. Add to that youngsters on thousands who probably have never kicked a ball in the first team. Players can earn pot loads without having to learn or develop these days. I'm not advocating going back to some of the stuff that went on with regard to the treatment of young players years ago but the learning of good habits and learning your trade to justify "earning" the bigger money has gone now.

When you think that Ron Greenwood never had a contract in all his time at West Ham. Both he and John Lyall were men of great integrity and I can imagine the likes of them and many other great managers wouldn't like the game at all now.

Re: Shit sports with overhyped stars
Sadly football is fast becoming a shit sport for me. Totally corrupt at the top level, obscene money dished out not just to players and managers but also the ridiculous number of pundits most of whom are utterly useless. Do we really need four sat in a comfy box, two or three commentating and another one or two interviewing on the pitch?

The transfer fees and wages being demanded by clubs and players are sick, such a shame the so called top six weren't kicked out when they threatened to leave. By staying that in itself has effectively determined which clubs will qualify for Europe each season and who will win the domestic trophies. And why weren't they kicked out, money money money for sky and the ruling elite!

My rant for the day, so saddened by the way my favorite sport has been destroyed, and yes I think it is becoming shit now.

Golf, too.

Appears to be there so that corporate types can get excited about something that isn't a spreadsheet.

Never got into baseball, either. Been a few times in the states, accompanied by fanatical fans, but just can't see it.

Appears to be a speed gum-chewing competition.

Any form of motor racing for me, too. Dull and full of Jeremy Clarkson types.

Re: Shit sports with overhyped stars
Yep, gotta agree with Pony and Griff - basketball is dull to me. Just massive blokes lumbering a few yards before dunking a ball in a net: hardly a push, given their size.

It doesn't even start to get "interesting" until the final few minutes. Just play the last three minutes. Or, better still, scrap it altogether.

Have to add anything with horses to that. Including horse racing. It's just dull and full of either posh weirdos or the creepy travellers rejected by other travellers.

Are you saying that if track and field was more financially rewarding the athletes might start taking performance enhancing drugs and suchlike?

'Most people involved in athletics are in it for the love of the sport and not for the money, because there isn't allot of money'

And that's why I really admire them. Unless you're at the very top, it's all about the pursuit of excellence and self sacrifice to get there. Ditto lots of swimmers, cyclists etc.

Re: Shit sports with overhyped stars
Some of those sports like Athletics, it's actually a good thing that they are no popular. If they were popular and started attracting the kind of money that Football does, it would absolutely ruin them and the kind of people that take part.

Most people involved in athletics are in it for the love of the sport and not for the money, because there isn't allot of money. It also makes it much more accesible unless you reach the level of Mo Farah, which not many people ever will.

Obviously I'm an athletics fan, involved in grass routes coaching and volunteering so easy for me to say this!
