West Ham United complete Nayef Aguerd transfer

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Morocco international defender Nayef Aguerd.

The 26-year-old joins the Hammers from French Ligue 1 club Rennes on a five-year contract and adds further quality and depth to David Moyes’ squad. He will wear the No27 shirt.

Aguerd has enjoyed two impressive seasons with Rennes, enhancing the reputation he established at FUS Rabat, Dijon and with the Moroccan national team.

Now, the left-sided player will continue his career in the English Premier League, where his combination of talents will see him provide strong competition for Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma.

“I was really excited when I heard about West Ham United's interest,” said Aguerd, an impressive individual who speaks fluent French, English, Arabic and Spanish.

“When I heard about it, I knew I needed to go to the Premier League, because it’s a dream for every player.

“West Ham is a historic Club. I saw a few of their games this year, and I saw the fans and the atmosphere were fantastic, with the bubbles!

“I talked with the manager and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to choose to come to West Ham.”

Aguerd was born in the city of Kénitra in the north of Morocco into a footballing family. His father played in the Moroccan top-flight, while his uncle Abdelmajid Bouyboud was capped 34 times and appeared at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals – an achievement his nephew could emulate in Qatar later this year.

As a boy, Aguerd represented local club KAC of Kénitra before being scouted and recruited to the national Mohammed VI Football Academy in the capital city of Rabat, where he spent four years playing alongside the likes of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

In 2014, aged 18, he joined leading club Rabat FUS, making 12 appearances in his debut season and attracting the attention of a host of leading Spanish clubs.

After bulking up and working hard on his game, Aguerd then inspired FUS to their first-ever Moroccan Championship in May 2016, scoring a vital goal against Ittihad Tanger that all but clinched the title.

After scoring in the 2017 CAF Champions League and impressing regularly for FUS over the next two seasons, Aguerd joined French Ligue 1 club Dijon in 2018.

Two encouraging seasons for Les Rouges led to a transfer to Rennes, where he started the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League match at home to Russian side Krasnodar and featured in four of six group-stage fixtures in the autumn of 2020.

Aguerd has thrived at Roazhon Park, making 66 Ligue 1 appearances and helping Rennes qualify for Europe in each of the last two seasons. He scored twice in seven UEFA Europa Conference League appearances and started 31 Ligue 1 games as Rennes finished fourth last term.

At international level, the defender was capped at U20 and U23 level before making his senior debut against Albania in August 2016. Two years later, he helped Morocco win the African Nations Championship on home turf.

He is now a regular in the Atlas Lions’ starting XI with 25 senior caps and was an ever-present in Morocco’s successful 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and run to the 2021 CAF Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Nayef to London Stadium and wish him all the best for his career in Claret and Blue.

If you read below, feet, you'll see that a load of people were making excuses for his many, many bad games as being because of the manager.

I know you're the thickest, most useless cunt on here, but I'm here to help.

What the fuck has Moyes management got to do with Aguerd having a below par game?

Fuck me this site is full of retards.

I don't even want to think about another season with this fucking useless cunt in charge. Even if we win this Europe thing, which we won't, he should fucking fuck the fuck off, the fucking cunt.

I can't do another season of Moyes.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
If Moyes doesn't leave in the summer, what on earth do we do about this lad?

He clearly ain't going to be able to play consistently well under this manager and style of play. Never in a million years.

I'm not hanging him out to dry, I'm saying I was expecting a lot more for £35mil. Hopefully he starts showing it soon.

Right, I'm off out. Enjoy the weather.

Never said you couldn't ED just saying there's a certain individual who's now managing incompetent international footballers, and recent history has shown us that most of them revert back to competent internationals when asked to play football rather than anti-football.

Focus should be concentrated on the cause not the outcome.....for all you know the new blokes may be having a deliberate mare due to not taking to the set up here.....his set up breeds a lack of confidence they may be confidence players.....how do you expect them to gain confidence when they are not having much of the ball?

You want to hang out to dry players who are being asked to give the ball up to fit his way of playing, a set up we all fucking detest......if you are professional in anything you want to do things the correct way Moyes is asking them to be unprofessional by asking them not to worry about having the ball......it's criminal to the game....

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
The manager is shit, but you could have driven a fucking oil tanker between our centre backs the other night, are you telling me two £30mil+ international centre halfs in their prime cannot organise that between themselves?

And why the fuck can we not call out individual players for diabolical performances? Everyone was talking about him like the Moroccan Bobby Moore after 2 games against shit opposition. Any time the level has gone up, he's looked pony, and he needs to drastically improve.

You tell us ED seeing as you are putting it across you are a man of action….the point is….there are bigger fish to fry and they are very likely the main reason he’s fucking up….that need the constant digging out so they may fuck off finally….

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
£35mil, probably £90k wages per week, 27 years old, getting the basics wrong.

It's ok to point that out, because it's what's happening.

Yes, let's hope he improves under a new manager. But we might not get one, so what happens then?

If you are being coached to play anti football and are new to this league it is THE best league to rip you a new one…..is all some are saying….examples of players that found it hard because of shit coaching are Winston Reid & Angelo DOGbonna as he was kindly nicknamed on here…..turn on the coaching of shit non possession football before writing off players…..there’s the right order to do things and this ain’t it…..

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
It truly is embarrassing, I look forward to them suddenly becoming great players from August, lol.

The other one on here is that is Moyes's fault Paquetta and Soucek can't pass the ball 5 yards to a team mate.

Funny how its only West Ham signings that take a long time to adjust to the Premier league…..I think they’ve had fucking long enough.
What a stupid saying.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
Think he will prove a good buy, along with Emerson, Paqueta , Scamacca when they get used to the pace and physical side of the premiership. So hopefully we’re still in the premiership next season they will be more adjusted.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
the entire back 4 + keeper look a bag of nerves whenever we are being attacked.
or with the ball at their feet.

i cannot believe that Ogbonna or Coufal would not do a better job.

"there's no way we'd look this poor defending with Dawson in the side"

I kept thinking this last night. Defend the FUCKING goal YOU MASSIVE bellends

How long is Andy Scamacca out?

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
He shouldn’t have received the ball where he was and with opposition forwards so close.

He did though and what happened next is entirely on him. All his good qualities mean jack shit if he makes errors like that.

Our signings last summer and pretty much every time we spend large amounts, we’re dog shit.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
Yeah I must say, I'm not overly impressed with Zouma either.

£65mil on a centre back pairing that can't defend against a half decent attack. The amount of space their attackers kept finding was embarrassing, there's no way we'd look this poor defending with Dawson in the side.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
Don't really know what to make of him. One minute he is calmly back heading the ball back to the keeper, the next he is practically treading on the ball. I remember Winston Reid struggling early on but the difference being he was young, Aguerd should be in his prime. It's not just him though, Zouma just let them waltz through at times. One does wonder how these players would be under another manager.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
Is this lad going to be the new TEFLON?

He cost £35mil, it's not like the ball was wrapped into him and someone was marking him touch tight. The pass was fine, he had time to react, he made a major ricket, and not for the first time.

We need much, much better from him.

Re: Nayef Aguerd - signed (30m)
Looks like he told Fab to pass it Emerson and Fab passed it to him and he wasn't expecting it.

I dont think Aguerd was expecting the ball at all,
Fab should never pass it to a player so closely marked.

Just trash decision making all around.
