West Ham secure appointment of Moyes favourite after Celtic exit

Olly Dawes

Mick Doherty has joined West Ham United with David Moyes pulling off a move to reunite with his former Everton talent scout.

The Hammers have made some key additions to their scouting team in recent times.

Rob Newman – formerly of Manchester City – has been heading up West Ham’s recruitment and they enjoyed a very positive summer window.

Ex-Norwich City striker Grant Holt and former Sheffield United man Georges Santos have also joined West Ham, who are leaving no stone unturned in their search for better recruitment.

It now looks like David Moyes has been able to add another new face to West Ham’s recruitment team.

The Scot has been chasing a deal for Mick Doherty of late and appears to have landed his man.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that West Ham have brought in Doherty to scout ‘emerging talent’ for the future.

Doherty and Moyes go way back so this move isn’t a huge surprise.

Doherty worked as a 17-21 International and UK Scout for Everton during Moyes’ time in the Goodison Park dugout.

Doherty has been labelled as the man who discovered Wayne Rooney at Everton, as well as the likes of Seamus Coleman and even Shkodran Mustafi.

Chelsea moved in for Doherty after his stint with Everton before he became Head of Recruitment at Sunderland for the 2016-17 season.

Who was in charge of Sunderland that season? Oh, it was Moyes.

Celtic snapped up Doherty as he left Sunderland following their relegation to the Championship, becoming a first-team scout for the Bhoys between 2017 and 2022.

Doherty left Celtic over the summer though and Moyes has been interested in a reunion.

That deal has now been done and Doherty will be charged with the task of finding promising youngsters for West Ham to target in January and beyond.

All these scouts and Moyes will still dither about and even if a player does sign we won't see him for half a season as he will need bedding in time. Waste of fucking money, time and effort with the dithering jock in charge.

Perhaps they can scout us a competent fucking manager.

No, it's the players that are the problem, not the shit fucking tactics. Fuck off Moyes.

Overkill? Most PL clubs have at least a dozen and it's well known that our scouting network was minimal when Moyes arrived. As for this new fella, it looks like his focus is on young players anyway, which probably isn't being covered.

How many scouts you think we need, one? You'd have them for all over the world.

So we now have Mick Doherty, Rob Newman, Grant Holt and Georges Santos scouting for us?

Seems a bit overkill to me.

My take on this, is the club aren't considering sacking Moyes anytime soon.

You can all relax speculating about the next manager.
