Co-opted into following the 'ammers 15 years ago by Mrs State. Have become increasingly nerdy since then by building up a collection of biographies of former players and other related books. For me the attraction of West Ham is their badge, it was a 19C anarchist symbol and I have sympathies in that direction. (Mrs State, gawd bless 'er, reckons they are fine footballing side).
Mrs State and I have 2 boys complete with replica kits. On their first trip to Upton Park, after they finished their hotdogs, they got bored and wanted to go home after 10 minutes of football! (Well, it was that crunch game against Southampton in season 01/02...). We also have a baby daughter born in December 2002.
Musical tastes vary from Paco Pena, Paco Del Gastor and Sabicas through to Joy Division, The Smiths, Bunnymen, the lord Bragg, Pistols, Buzzcocks and so on. (yes...it's an age thing).
Favourite authors are: Jan Kresadlo, Milan Kundera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Irvine Welsh, Nick Hornby, John Le Carre and many others.
I was born in Nigeria and lived there till I was 8, then Malaysia and Iran. Not content with good ol' Blighty as a young man, I moved to Prague for six years returning in 1997. Since then, the fortunes of WHUFC have become an increasing pre-occupation, doctor...why are you hiding?
The only hobby I have time for these days is playing the Spanish guitar. I have been playing since I was 13 and have a repertoire ranging from heavy classical and flamenco through to some jazz and blues, depending on my mood. Other than that, I spend as much time as I can with my family and also help run a youth footy team in Lewisham.
