Around 20 years ago Bristol City Council paid an astronomical amount of money to remove Banksy graffiti from a bridge on the M32, 100k IIRC. Which was completely pointless as the whole area concerned was covered in graffiti and still is.

And now whenever graffiti is removed from anywhere in Bristol, the same council has issued instructions to leave his stuff as it is.

So essentially they wasted 100k on getting rid of something, that if it had been left alone, they'd now be promoting as a tourist attraction.

Still, lesson learnt and all that, so why not waste another few hundred grand on rainbow crossings across the city. Not like they're so strapped for cash that they have to close libraries and centers for the deaf etcetcetc

As Andrew Doyle says, if the book was the personal property of the bloke, he should be able to dispose of it in any way he sees fit. In a state where real freedom existed, you would have this right,no questions asked. So next time someone insists that our freedoms haven't been curtailed, tell them politely to get fucked!

i dont think he'd have been arrested for burning a bible.

If it was a muslim burning a bible, would it have been same outcome? A part of me feels they may have been led on their way and told to go home. 

Of course they would have been let off.  The FREE PALESTINE mentalists have been burning the UK flag without any repercussions.  From my point of view (I'm not religious) it's the same, if not worse.

There was a trade route from Scandinavia to the Muslim world and I think that there were vikings who also used to form part of an elite fighting unit, that used to protect Sultans of the Ottoman Empire centuries ago. I’d be surprised if many converted to Islam though. Maybe the writers of that article are confusing Viking’s with people from the Balkans? Many of whom were taken from their families at an early age and forced to convert.

I suspect as well that  article conveniently overlooks the fact that a fair chunk of that early trade came in the shape of slaves. Because that wouldn’t be palatable and of course it’s only Britain that has to be hauled over the coals for all of that kind of stuff…
