He asked: “Why is the civil service wasting people’s time with a course that doesn’t help people do their jobs better?” Mr Rees-Mogg was told that the Government may not get very far on improving diversity in Whitehall by axing the roles, but he disagreed. He said: “Yes, because I don’t believe they are doing anything useful. I don’t believe they are adding to the diversity of the civil service. The review by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass also raised concerns about the use of puberty-blocking drugs. ‘Harrowing’ testimony from young people Speaking to GB News on Saturday, Ms Badenoch said she was “so happy” the centre was closing having heard “harrowing” testimony from young people treated there. “What happened at the Tavistock was a very serious child-welfare failure, where children were being given experimental treatment that retarded their development,” she said. Ms Badenoch said she recalled “official advice, government officials telling me not to meet the clinicians who are whistleblowers, telling me not to meet the children ... who had received treatment there, and having to fight so much”. She added that when she started “asking questions”, meeting minutes would suddenly “get leaked” and “mysterious” freedom of information requests would be submitted trying to get details from whistleblowers. “I think it’s very hard to do the right thing now because there’s so much obstruction and that’s something that we need to fix,” she added."
