How Coventry City feel about selling Haji Wright as West Ham plot transfer

Coventry City plan to resist transfer interest in Haji Wright this month, while West Ham United are considering a move for the striker.

The Sky Blues have utilised the transfer window to bolster their promotion credentials, acquiring Min-Hyeok Yang and Romain Esse on loan from Tottenham and Crystal Palace, respectively.

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has revealed that Coventry are not pushing to sign Callum Wilson, despite speculation that the striker could return to the CBS Arena.

Lampard's side will be eager to beat Leicester City in their next Championship game, having failed to win any of their last three league games.

Wright will remain pivotal to Coventry's promotion-chasing efforts, having scored eight goals in 22 second-tier appearances this campaign.

Meanwhile, Darren Witcoop reported via X on Friday that West Ham are considering a move for the striker, but the Sky Blues plan to resist interest in his services.

The USA international has not scored for his club since their 5-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday back in October, and is vying to hit his best form once again.

Coventry City's transfer stance favours Haji Wright

Wright has proven himself as one of the best attackers in the Championship since joining Coventry from Turkish outfit Antalyaspor back in 2023.

Therefore, the 27-year-old is arguably well-placed to pursue a Premier League move this month.

However, interested party West Ham have already signed strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, meaning that Wright could endure a lack of game time if he departed the CBS Arena in favour of the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are seven points adrift of safety, following their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Consequently, Wright is more likely to be a top-flight player next season if he stays at Coventry, who are vying for promotion, whereas West Ham appear destined for relegation.

The Sky Blues must maintain their lead over automatic promotion rivals Middlesbrough and Ipswich to book their spot in next season's Premier League.

With nine goals and two assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this term, Wright is set to be an asset for Lampard's men amid their increasingly exciting campaign.

Coventry will need Wright at his best when they face play-off hopefuls Leicester and Millwall this month, while an upcoming clash with strugglers Norwich City could prove particularly fruitful for the West Midlands club.

Meanwhile, Lampard's side already know how vital their fixture against Middlesbrough next month is, as Kim Hellberg's men are currently the most likely candidates to knock the Sky Blues off their perch.

But with talented attackers such as Wright and former Everton man Ellis Simms among their ranks, the CBS Arena outfit should have what it takes to win the Championship title this season.

While the USA international's form has dropped in recent weeks, Simms has notched two goals in his last two appearances, scoring against Birmingham and Charlton Athletic.

West Ham ‘enter negotiations’ for 21-year-old winger

By Naveen Ullal

West Ham United have been active in the winter market and completed the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe.

Gil Vicente coach César Peixoto this week explained he’s gutted over losing Pablo.

West Ham have already signed two attackers and are still looking to strengthen their attack in January. That’s according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, and he reports West Ham are in the mix to sign Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup.

The left winger has played 967 minutes from 21 matches this season, including five starts, scoring two goals and contributing two assists.

Di Marzio claims the Norway international could change clubs this month to secure regular game time. Parma have been pursuing a deal for him and have to be wary of West Ham and AS Roma.

The journalist claims these two clubs are showing interest in the 21-year-old. Roma are looking at him as an alternative, if they fail to secure other targets.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are presented as keen. Di Marzio claims ‘keep an eye on West Ham’ as they ‘entered negotiations’ for Schjelderup.

A January move could be on the cards, and the Hammers can offer the Norwegian an escape route should he so wish. Jose Mourinho’s side will have the final say.

West Ham are making a move for Alpha Touré (FC Metz)

Fighting to avoid relegation from Ligue 1, FC Metz could lose their young talent Alpha Amadou Touré to a struggling English club. West Ham United are making a strong push for the 19-year-old midfielder, but the deal is far from being finalized for the Hammers.

At just 19 years old, Alpha Amadou Touré may soon be taking a major step forward in his young career. According to our sources, West Ham United are fully committed to signing the Senegalese midfielder from FC Metz. The Hammers are prepared to offer a substantial sum to convince Metz to part with their talented player. However, it's a very complex situation, and Touré is still a long way from leaving Lorraine.

Indeed, while West Ham, currently 18th in the Premier League, have clearly indicated their very concrete interest to the player's entourage, Metz are not yet keen on parting ways with their number 12, who is under contract until 2028, and no negotiations have yet begun between the two clubs. A product of the Génération Foot Academy, Alpha Touré has played 17 Ligue 1 matches since the start of this season.
