‘Incredible’ – Shock as player breaks bone just after arriving from West Ham

West Ham United have only just waved goodbye to Niclas Füllkrug and, somehow, the striker has already managed to make headlines again… And the Italian press are calling it “incredible”.

Just days after leaving West Ham, Füllkrug picked up an injury at his new club. He has broken a toe almost immediately after arriving in Serie A. As a result, his start in Italy has stopped before it really began.

The German forward joined AC Milan on loan, with an option to buy worth around £4.3m (€5m). AC Milan expected him to add experience and physical presence up front. Instead, he landed straight on the injury list.

Calciomercato report that Füllkrug fractured a toe on his foot and now faces several weeks out. Current expectations point to at least a month on the sidelines for the Germany international. Further medical checks will still follow, but the outlook looks clear for now.

The striker just left London, changed leagues and countries, and then immediately became unavailable. Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri already has enough issues in attack. Losing a new signing so quickly only adds to them. But it’s not West Ham’s problem for now.
Fans already questioned arrival from West Ham

There’s likely to be some anger among the AC Milan fanbase. The Rossoneri really needed a striker in January to help them with a push for the Serie A title. When the arrival from West Ham was first rumoured, there was a backlash because of the player’s poor injury history.

Now that he’s picked up an issue so soon after arriving, there’s going to be a lot of I told you so.

Füllkrug was meant to add physical presence and experience to Milan’s frontline. Instead, his first contribution has been an entry in the medical report.

The player himself is naturally thrilled with his move to AC Milan, describing it all as emotionally overwhelming.

He just didn't want it. Seems clear he was just here because of the money on offer, TBH. Talked like a tough guy but never played like one. 

he clearly has a low/zero pain threshold, you only have to watch his reluctance to defend or welcome contact (unlike tomas). a big wet lettuce cսnt, who in any other era, never plays for germany

To be fair it's a nice change it's happened to someone else other than us for once.
I imagine this means they won't take him and we'll have to give him away in the summer.

I can't remember any occasion apart from the preseason in America when he has ever been fit. A disastrous signing, a panic buy.  What he said in that interview was true but you need to back stuff up like that by being an example, which he wasn't, he looked heavy a lot of the time. I'm not surprised fans were calling for him to be captain, because a lot of them seem to be quite superficial.

I would bet any money he doesn't play another game this season.

I think it's simpler than that, Gank: many fans said don't buy him in the first place. He had a long history of muscle and joint (knee, thigh, hamstring) injuries when we signed him for a large amount of money and on a big wage. What followed was entirely predictable. Edin Terzic, his manager at Dortmund when he played in the CL run, said they always had to nurse him through matches, and many fans criticised Terzic for not replacing Fullkrug with a more mobile striker.

It's West Ham syndrome. We have to do better than this with big transfers.
