When I first visited the village I eventually chose to make my place of retirement, I got chatting/drinking with a bunch of (old - very old) expats who had also moved up there from Pattaya, where they met their wives (not all trophies).

One was simply introduced as DTM, which, it turned out stood for Dave, the Murderer. Seems he'd done a 17 stretch in Wakefield for taking part in a botched bank robbery where a security guard got shot dead.

He was out on licence (granted by Leon Britten, to give you an indication of times, so he would not have met Watkins), however, he said back then that Watkins card was already marked and that there was a strict pecking order inside.

Kiddy-fiddlers/nonces were, he said, right at the bottom of that pecking order and were normally kept separate for their own safety, however whenever a chance came up, someone would nail one. Once or twice a month, he said, incidences like this happened.

Dave ran a book inside so was generally left alone as he always had fags and sometimes a bit of booze available.

As an aside, he lived in the village where "Last of the Summer Wine" was filmed and used to rent out his house there to the production team, but he never made it clear as to whether or not it was before, during or after his incarceration.
