Failure to beat Fulham would surely make Brighton the last chance saloon for him?
We should have got Sean Dyche when he was available like I advocated earlier in the season. I have never been convinced by Nuno the bus parking numpty. No way does Nuno get fired. Sullivan
He fucking well should if he manages to royally fuck up the next handful of games, but yes knowing the gimp in charge he'll likely reward him with a new contract instead.

No way does Nuno get fired. Sullivan knows he won't be able to get anyone better.
Dyche isn't dissimilar in how he sets up. The key is that Forest have a far better squad and a stronger and more complete first XI than us and the other sides in the bottom 4 so it shouldn't be a surprise they are moving up the table. Don't forget they were pretty dynamic and successful last season under the bloke now managing us before his relationship with the owner fell beyond repair which clearly fucked the team before the completely baffling appointment of fat Ange and his retarded way of playing which didn't suit their squad at all. I doubt Dyche would have been able to do much different to Nuno here. He might have made a few different decisions some maybe gaining us a few points and some losing a few points but he wouldn't have been able to pull a PL quality striker or left winger or centre back out of his arse. The football would be largely the same because of the limitations of what's available to any manager. As a counter to him being 'better' look how badly he was doing at Everton before being replaced by Moyes who got quite a bit more out of the same players. It's easy to look at the league table today and in hindsight go 'We should have got Dyche' but it just doesn't work like that. None of them are magicians.

The managerial equivalent of buying Paul Hilton after beating Bury 10-0?

So why then employ him. With us losing at City and Leeds, at home, with a very real chance of beating Palace, and Forest away at Fulham, probably a draw means we are a minimum 6 points adrift going into Christmas. Glenn Roeder years anyone. But, he has improved us, apparently. FFS

10 points out of a possible 33 after 11 games - Around about as bad as Potter and certainly with a lower win percentage than anyone thus far. Potter had 23 points after 23 League matches. Like I've said before, it's marginally better and that's mainly because we are tighter defensively.

It's a weird one.
He's made us back into a Moyes type of team, which is what people had had enough of under Moyes.
Potter was trying to turn us into a footballing side, but failed miserably.

All of our recent managers have been successful in different set ups at different clubs..
This club isn't run with any long term strategy, it's just a process of put money in for one season for a new manager as "ambition; don't sustain it, watch results falter, wait 'til the crowd turn, then sack the bloke.
The only difference is the cycle is getting shorter with managers failing to last even one season.
The recruitment of players is frequently awful though this summer's don't look bad.
This window they will buy an insurance player who they think will get the club promoted if we go down and they will look to cadge two or three they won't be saddled with if we drop.
Yes, I agree. Actually I also think Moyes was the perfect manager for Sullivan which is why he lasted so long. On shaky ground coming here, not really in a position to cause too much disruption over transfers he didn't want, even procrastinating for ages over them to suit the 'end of the window' scenario Sullivan craves, never popular enough to take away any reflected glory or become an icon or a hero to the fans and abrasive enough to keep a love hate relationship (very much Like Allardyce, the only other long term appointment) happy to work with a limited squad and budget and not get above his station either in the media or to play sexy football and become really popular and most importantly not stupid or shit enough to actually get relegated despite flirting with it. The runs in Europe and the cup win was just the icing on the cake. You could tell Sullivan was well happy having such a manager here because everything about it suited him. I believe he would have given him his new contract if he could have worked it out and I also think he'd have happily employed Allardyce for longer as well in a perfect world.
It has to straddle a fine line between being savvy enough to not get us relegated but not charismatic, popular or good enough to get the glory. Bilic clearly was the victim of his own personality and success in those respects because it threatened Sullivan and AS SOON as there was a excuse to fire him the bullet came. I don't think he will ever hire another manager who he fears will be adored. That's why there was never a cat in hell's chance of Mourinho for example. He wants someone grateful, cheap, controllable, of limited popularity and of adequate talent to keep us ticking over until (What I am sure the masterplan is) we finally get given or sold cheaply the stadium and then he takes his money and runs.

I called for it at the time and hate this fucking Club's Owners for never showing any ambition getting him by paying the compensation to release him from Villarreal. Unless they're out of work costing him fuck all, he aint interested. A massive missed opportunity that's in-keeping with the BS regime of penny pinching. He would have set us up for years to come just as he's predictably doing now at Villa. What was your username on here when you were calling for it back then?

Re: Nuno Out
Emery- would have turned out like his time at Arsenal, not Villa. He'd have been short changed and undermined by Sullivan, given nowhere near what he wanted or needed, and made the scapegoat through cunty 'ITK leaks' and shitty disingenuous articles released through Sullivans sources to facilitate fan unrest before being fired. Rinse and repeat.
Players this Jan- Two things are in our favour. The World Cup and Mendes. We have the golden roladex available to us AND plenty of decent players out there who will want to prove themselves worthy of a plane ticket to the World Cup and fancy their chances, and it's an audition if we go down. We can get a couple of GOOD players in on loan and I am sure sign a couple on the proviso they can leave for a certain fee if we go down and criteria are met. Mendes can EASILY park them in Saudi and get us our money back while facilitating a proper move for them. There are absolutely some strategic options on the table and in our favour.
Of course the one sticking point is whether little Napoleon plays ball and accepts he's the rank amateur here and just gets it done no questions and quickly, rather then fancying himself Mendes' equal or superior when it comes to handling players. He's got to back down eat humble pie and just go with it or we are fucked for his own good and at the stake of probably hundreds of millions of dollars for him personally. I just don't know if he's capable of it and keeping that ego in check..

Goes to Palace instead, look at them now.

For sure there are the occasional gems to be picked up from the Championship but anyone in that league who shows PL squad potential is generally snapped up quickly.
I meant only a couple of players from the championship in the key positions.we need, CF & CB.

It will be loans as usual as he won't spend money thinking that there's a good chance we're in the Championship next year.
So no real solution to the years old striker issue.
Will be another loan stop gap who will be off whether we stay up or not.
Who would want to join us anyway?
I'd be looking at the best the Championship has to offer and hopefully find another Bowen, if we do go down we're well placed to come back up.
I don't expect Sullivan to do that though as it requires a well thought out strategy and identifying the right players.
Normally I'd agree, I want us to make shrewd long term signings that will contribute to the club in the future. and preferably chosen by a DOF, it's what we all want.
However, this is not the time for that. We have our eggs in the Nuno basket, in a critical situation. We need to give him a minimum of 3 players of his choice, and hope to fuck he can do what he did for Forest in his 1st season there.
Fair point but will they want to join a sinking ship?

Yes - But for me, the writing was on the wall when we got to Europa League knock out with a small and tired squad and in that Jan window we brought in nobody. That told me all I needed to know. I said to my mate, that window should've been the springboard for the owners to deliver what the promised all those years ago - Champions League. If we went out that window and bought a striker, midfielder and a back up defender, then we win that EL and get into the CL.
We subsequently got knocked out in the semi looking tired and overwhelmed.
But not buying anyone in that window, the owners proved that their ambition of getting into the CL was lies.

Re: Nuno Out
The weird thing with this season is, especially last four / five games, I think we have played pretty well. There has been a marked improvement in organisation, commitment and competitiveness in the players. That's very clearly Nuno's impact.
You look at Bournemouth and we had a solid lead and threw that away. Could've nicked it at Utd. Got robbed at Brighton and on another day we beat or draw with Villa. So for me, we aren't too far off - Its just seemingly that we are also going through a spell of bad luck and during those critical moments in games - Its not going our way.
You look at that Brighton goal. Total freak. Should've been free kick for high kick. Bloke controls it with his hand, shoots and it literally goes straight back to him. Law in an ass but it was a freak goal. Bowen's off-side yesterday. So close. Mavro's own goal yesterday. A freak. Soucek late chance against Utd. Bournemouth's equaliser with deflection. As doom and gloom as it is, in another season we are easily 7 or 8 points to the better.
My worry is that yesterday was a kick in the guts too hard for the players. They looked deflated. Its clear they and Nuno have been working hard. And to lose it that way was sickening. But they have to get up and fight and want it. Every single game. I am sure there will be more teams going on a bad run. There will be more dragged in.
But when you are winning games on a good run and in a comfy league position, a result like yesterday can easily be put behind you as one of those days. But we are now running out of time and games to have days like that. We look competitive but we must turn it into wins. We have four winnable games after Man City and we need to take at least 7 points. Just hope the players are up for the fight.
