Whether it's Gastro, Noro, or some other variant. What a fucking shitter! Came on at 3am....30 trips to the Royal Doulton later and no sign of it abating.

Ugh. How are the rest of you getting on with the inevitable pre-Xmas illnesses?

With hindsight with all these bugs about Christmas away this year with a flight & a cruise coming up may not have been the best idea!  Debating whether to wear a mask on the flight or will it may me look a total twat!  You more than likely have gastro or food poisoning if it's at that end!  Had food poisoning years ago, ironically a week before we were due to go to Florida.  Brutal it was.  Had Norovirus a few years back as well and it was like something out of the excorcist!  They say it's a few days but that was bollocks.  My stomach shrunk so much the Mrs and I could hardly eat our Christmas dinner at her works do three weeks later.  Not sure which was worse.

People wear on public transport still so you won't look a twat, you'll probably get the one smart arse telling you the mask offers no protection as particles can still penetrate it but usually telling em to f**k off does the trick.

Another classic gastro incident.

After my old fella died I tracked down a few of his long lost relatives. One was a yank, who was a professor teaching Spanish. I agreed to meet up with him in Galicia for a bit of a road trip. To say the man was fluent in Spanish was an understatement. If we stopped for a coffee, the Spaniards would call their colleagues over to hear him speak. They couldn't believe it.

Anyway we went to a little place he knew in the rias baixas for supper. It just was a man with a frying pan and four tables on a pontoon. Only one thing on the menu. We had razor clams and a couple of bottles of albarino. The next day I could barely stand with the shits. I had to fly back BA from Vigo. The whole carry on through the airport was hell. I just sat in the seat on the plane clenching my arse for 2 hours. I still break out in a sweat thinking about it.

I had one of the very worst nights of my life with it a couple of weeks ago. I lost count of the times I threw up and almost constant stomach pains, crapping three the eye of a needle.  
my nausea woke me up three times during the night just for the sole purpose of throwing up again and I just made it to the loo on time.  The following day I was in pain all day and and at one point was simultaneously shitting through the eye of a needle while vomitting into the bathroom sink.  One good thing was that I came out of it about 8 lbs lighter

 

Had that twice. Once on a trip to EuroDisney a couple years back, where my eldest (7 at the time) projectile vomited in the car whilst we were in the EuroTunnel. One after another....that followed to totally destroy an expensive long weekend.

The other time was sea food poisoning while backpacking in Thailand, Krabbi. Was glad to be in a hotel.room for that leg of the journey with Air Con and a wet room. Was pretty much delirious for about 5 days.

Bad Times. 

Had something in Phuket last year that gave me the shits for 3 days. Had to cancel a trip to phi phi and couldn’t make it downtown for a soapy massage.

I work in hospitality and I'm  rarely ill, probably because  my immune system has been exposed to every bug and germ and filthy habit going. My diet is quite cautious and bland.

However after a recent Ryanair flight to Spain I shat like a train for almost a week. Imodium couldn't contain it. I lost pounds of weight (I'm trim anyway) and took electrolytes.

So I don't know what the answer is but I just thought I'd over share as well.

Had noro virus couple of times very messy, had oysters for starters Christmas lunch , later found out oysters carry noro virus if not properly washed/prepared. Haven’t had them since wouldn’t chance it!

 

 

I know I'm a terrible heathen, but I always felt that eating your own snot would be very similar and probably safer too!

Also when they're product testing dioralyte, wonder if the sadistically try to make it test like Acid Reflux deliberately.

There is a product out there similar to Dioralyte called ORS that was developed specifically to deliver comparable benefits, but with an acceptable taste. 

There are two or three flavours out there, and it SHOULD be available in most pharmacies and Tesco etc. Here's a link too.

Also, completely random fact: Charles who is one of the founders/inventors of ORS is probably the tallest human being I have ever met, probably pushing 7 feet.

Could have made a decent career at basketball had he not  become a pharmacist.

Went to docs last Friday, wheezing and crackling on lungs. Acute lower respiratory chest infection and a weeks course of Doxycycline 100mg. Mostly cleared the infection now but a lingering cough causing back and stomach strain and breathlessness even walking short distances. Currently drinking honey and lemon drink. Knocked me cold. Always get something this time of year.

Yeah is brutal. Those coughs linger for sure. Hope you heal up soon!

Probably some fucked up bacteria from Pakistan. All that Curry you’ve been swallowing, cooked by 7th century cooking techniques by people who bathe in toxic rivers is probably what you have….

Tried a couple of immodium this morning to try a stem the tide so to speak...massive fail.

Hopefully eases in time to get some sleep this evening without shitting the bed, and then to only feel like death tomorrow and not like I have one of those chest bursting aliens in my stomach.

Agreed. It's Gastro or Noro for sure. Probably Gastro given no vomiting and all the other end.

Comes of living with two school age kids and a primary school teacher this time of year.

I had a chest x-ray last night following a bad chest infection. Doctor rang me an hour ago and wants to see me tonight. Got to admit I'm fucking nervous.
