Potential boycott of World Cup over Greenland!

Post Sydney_Iron »

Apparently its being looked at and some politician's actively seeking a boycott unless the orange man backs down on Greenland!

Why is sport always used in this way, most notably the Olympics, but now maybe football.

As much as i think Trumps plans are bonkers at best and he should respect what Greenlanders want, if football gets used as a political tool by Europe then that's equally fucked up.

https://caliber.az/en/post/trump-s-gree ... ts-boycott

Rising tensions between the United States and Europe over Donald Trump’s aggressive pursuit of Greenland have prompted European leaders to explore a range of retaliatory measures, including a potential boycott of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

According to British media, the prospect emerged as Trump announced tariffs on eight European nations—Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark—over their involvement in Greenland, a move critics have described as coercive and unprecedented.

Russia invaded the Ukraine in 2014 and no one suggested a boycott. The Qataris were working their immigrant indentured servants to death and not one nation boycotted. The players couldn't even take a stand to wear the rainbow armband. FIFA ain't doing anything and neither are any European FA's for fear of reprisal. I'd be all for it and love to see the price gouging touts get fucked, but when push comes to shove, everyone will flip on the tele, sadly.

This is sport. Banning the Russian football team for a military incursion their nation held to take their own land back is an absolute outrage, they even got banned from Eurovision. Now you idiots think USA shouldn't hold the World Cup? There are a few good reasons why perhaps it shouldn't, but their president isn't one of them. It's telling that the ones who think we shouldn't take part are the ones who very obviously can't afford to go anyway.

Jones, I slept like a baby! Did you listen to Trump speak in Davis yet?

I know it hurts but what a year of success Trump has provided us. Too many to count. Tax cuts kick in this year and all this new money coming in to the Country. It’s the Golden age.

Oh and the World Cup isn’t going anywhere, I might go to a few games at Sofi seeing as ticket prices might drop as there won’t be so many fans allowed in to the country.

America first baby!

Yep you are probably right.  Major footballing nations in Italy, France, Brazil, Germany have hosted it twice.  England, Argentina and Spain once.  Even though it's shared this will be Mexico's third.  Portugal and Spain share with Morocco next time and then in 2034 it's the brown bags of Saudi Arabia.

Pity the fans don't just boycott the World Cup over a) the USA holding it again despite hardly playing the game and  stupidly calling it soccer and b) the ridiculous ticket prices and travelling. Incredible that the US gets it in 94 and 26 yet England held it once nearly 60 years ago. Mind you that's FIFA for you though.Three hot beds of the once beautiful game in Russia, Quatar and US holding last three tournaments!

Move the USA fixtures to Canada and Mexico? or simply pull the European teams out of it full stop.

Or carry on as normal and when Trump appears in the crowd, shaking hands with the teams, etc. The crowd boo him off the world stage.

Nothing will happen, FIFA are corrupt and gutless, look at that trophy (the FIFA Peace Prize) they presented to Trump. When the World Cup was in Qatar, FIFA laid the law down and said that any captain wearing a rainbow armband would be issued with a yellow card. so why don't they show some balls and ask for that FiFA Peace Prize back.

Should be interesting (The WC 26). Maybe we will get a sporting moment that will go down in history similar to Jesse Owens at the Olympics in Germany, the USA pulling out of the Russian Olympics, Putin not acknowledging the Ukraine Team at the Winter Olympics.

I dunno, this stuff is escalating so fast I’m not sure there will be a World Cup tbh. I don’t think western Europe can ignore anyone stealing any of its territory. Sport takes a backseat. It kind of has to.
Hopefully it gets moved and if FIFA doesn’t like it, well FIFA doesn’t have to exist. Create an alternative tournament in Europe and invite Brazil etc Trump hates them as well.

Banning fans from qualified countries should see FIFA disqualify the US from hosting
Still time to shift games all to Canada & Mexico

Though expect the President would scramble the airforce to shoot down planes flying between those two countries

Anyone seen those Epstein files over the last couple of weeks?
Believe the other Donald Trump got up to some sick shit with his wingman Jeffrey

Take sport out of it. A Boycott should be a personal choice. Don't want to come here?  Don't!!

Go and join an anti ICE march or demonstration against <enter your cause here> instead!

I'd imagine similar to AFCON and Morocco, as much as is possible will be done to ensure the USA side gets as far as possible in the tournament given how much cosying up there has been between the US and FIFA's administrations.

There's probably more realistic threats of US politicising it and holding certain countries to ransom by not allowing their teams and supporters to enter the country depending on their stance on various political issues unless they change their minds than anyone else boycotting it.

Someone should ask AI who would win this World Cup if the top 14 European countries, along with Argentina & Brazil don't participate.

And yet he's still bossing the left at every opportunity.

You're, apparently, sending your best and their getting owned by an id driven, demented, geriatric.

So either all the copium is clouding your judgement or the left really are a bigger clown show than we realised.

There won't be a boycott as there is too much investment by all concerned.
Havng said that Trump is regressing mentally and his inner toddler chimp brain (what's left of it) is all that is left. Gianni Intantino is just a bad joke but FIFA and other large sporting organisations have been like this for as long as I can remember. Bending over for the Saudis is the cherry on the cake.
