Champions League

Post Eastside surge »

What was once a great competition has simply become a bore fest with game after game of no importance and no consequence on the result . Simply for money making to keep the rich clubs at the top of the tree .

The new league stage is a farce. Only there to appease the super league clubs.

The group stage was pretty boring too, but at least it was easy to know that the top 2 qualify for the knockouts.

I remember John Robertson winning it for Forest  in 1980 though.

No surprise that games can be exciting once there is something at stake i.e. in the knockout rounds. But most competitions now are set up to spend 80% of the games to eliminate 20% of the entrants

Have been a couple of decent games but few and far between, in general i prefer the straight up home and away tie with the winner advancing to the next round rather than this league nonsense and then the top 16 start the knockouts, much more entertaining and means clubs have to give a fuck at this level, as it's not like they have many dog shit sides in the comp!

This format favours the big sides as well, and they can afford a fuck up or 2 and still get to the latter rounds when the real football begins, a straight knock out comp as it originally was would see a big side crash out in round 1 or 2 every so often and the TV advertisers, sponsors and big clubs owners wouldn't like that!

Don't know what to make of it, some say it's better now than the old group format, as more games among top sides, but yea there seem to be games that just don't matter and generally don't think the neutral has a clue what is going on, nor cares. Was talking to a yid the other day and he was talking about their game with Dortmund and I had no idea if it was important or not, he said it was but didn't seem that sure. I think the next round of games are the last ones, so it might get more interesting then, fuck knows.
