Yes, I get the drift - But are people going to create a 'Kilman is shit' thread each time we now lose?

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Respectfully - Anyone blaming Kilman for what happened Saturday is just missing the obvious and blinded by their agenda. Not sure why on earth Nuno would replace a striker for a CB in a game where we needed to match up to what Chelsea had changed in midfield.
if a team is dominating midfield you don't put a CB on to counter that.
Additionally, I suppose Kilman's last ditch block at 2-2 that almost saved us a point and his tackle at 2-2 that thwarted another Chelsea attack will go unnoticed?
I mean, seriously, I am not suggesting he is good enough, nor that he should be on the pitch, but this is all a bit childish in my view. I mean, if you use a hammer to slice roast beef, its not the hammers fault.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
No way Gary, our problem at the back is mostly balls into the box because of our general lack of aerial prowess, sticking in a kid who is barely 6ft definitely not the answer.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Could Mayers be the answer to our lack of pace in the heart of defence ?
He has played there at under 21 level and I've seen some impressive footage of him getting back to make a goal saving challenge after a colleague had been outpaced.
He may not be the biggest height wise but then that never stopped Stevie Potts.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Midfield was where the game flipped. Nuno one dimensional thinking back line us the inly way to defend. You defend as a team. The 2 new forwards have been a great help in that regard too. Bowen also helps defend whereas Wilson doesnt or cannot. Pablo, Taty, Bowen, Soucek and Fernandes all hitting their limits around 60-70 min mark as they ate doing far more work out of possession now. Nuno has back up in central midfield but didnt use it. We needed to overload midfield and flanks to choke off the supply.

Foolish
Couldn't agree more. Around 55 minutes is when they started to get a foothold in midfield which we had pretty well dominated to that point. You easily could have subbed Magassa and Potts for Soucek and Pablo to make the midfield more defensive and sturdier AND still played for the counter. As it was, we basically abandoned the midfield and invited pressure for the last half hour. Don't really remember any counters despite Chelsea throwing everything forward.

I feel sorry for Kilman. Under Lopetegui he looked decent, and he has been a good Premier League defender.
But for whatever reason he's dropped off a cliff.“I feel sorry for Kilman. Under Lopetegui he looked decent, and he has been a good Premier League defender.”
Sorry, Stubbo, that’s just revisionist nonsense. He has never been a “good” premier league defender and he did not look decent under Lopetegui - he was a joke almost from the moment he joined us for one of the most inflated fees in British football history.
He will never play in a top-10 Premier League team. He is a walking relegation battle. A catastrophe of a player. But we all know that now.I genuinely don't think that's true. His stats have been pretty good prior to half way through last season. Good in the air, good with the ball at his feet.
He's never been a leader, or much of a Dawson type back to the walls defender. He's the wrong guy for our setup and situation...but he hasn't always been just terrible.
Of course he's never been a 40m pound player....but if we'd signed him for a reasonable fee commensurate to the market and his ability (~15 to 20m) then I feel like that would have been an understandable and reasonable deal for a club trying to switch to a possession based approach and playing a higher line, looking for ball comfortable centre backs.
I know he's the current scapegoat...as JWP, Mavropanos and countless others before him...but IMO that's a balanced view of a guy who's had a solid PL career, made his way through the tiers etc.
This is where we will have to agree to politely fundamentally differ, Stubbo: I think your assessment is a spreadsheet assessment and a million miles from any football analysis.
Data is useful, but can be made to look so different from the reality.
For example. You say it indicates (or indicated) that Kilman would be suited to a team transitioning to a higher line etc. But, as everybody has discovered, that’s patently garbage. Kilman is slow for a modern day centre half, and has the turning circle of an oil tanker. He’s a complete liability when he plays a higher line because there’s too much space behind him and he gets burnt by even “decently” paced forwards over even a 10 yard distance. You can’t play him comfortably in a high line - he gets murdered by real pace.
As Eerie says (and I agree with him entirely on this point), the eye test is still everything if you know what you’re looking at, or for.
You say the data says he plays a high line and is comfortable passing out from the back. Most West Ham fan will tell you otherwise.
He isn’t even worth half the money we paid. He can’t run, tackle, head, pass or lead. On an unprecedented 7-year contract, he’s an abysmal signing for £40m - and the proof of this pudding has been in the eating…he’s not now a first choice in a struggling side where we have few CB options.
Kilman, and too many players like him, are the reason we’re facing relegation. A gold-plated Gary Breen.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
It now makes me wonder where he is mentally
Despite the 100k a week it can't be much fun being him and his confidence must be shit to pieces.
He needs to go on loan or move to resurrect his career so may decide to do us a favour and cut his loses although unless we sign someone else imminently it won't be happening.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Stubbo, that is where stats give you false answers to the reality of the eye test.
Stats do not cover heart, desire and defensive nous.
There is not a stat out there that will explain him playing on the left of 3 centre backs, and watching a young academy product getting ripped apart by Salah on the left side, doing absolutely nothing about it.
He's a 'hider'. The worst of all characteristics for a defender.

Exactly. I knew as soon as he went on that we were fucked, and not because of the player, who didn't perform especially badly. Taking off a striker to bring on a centre back was absolutely the wrong move to make, and one that Nuno does too often, just when it looked like he might have wised up on his tactics.

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Kilman is Kilman, can't chop his knees off just because he is shit.
The problem lies with the manager relying on him, together with trying to add to the defence to keep a scoreline.
Also the problem lies with the clubs management and transfer policy. He was a bad signing and we are paying the price for not adding another quality defender.
Shit in, shit out

Re: Killiwise - The win killing clown.
Should add, I don’t blame Kilman for signing a seven-year deal on 100k a week. In his shoes, we’d all have done it. He’s set for life in a sport that can forget you in an instant (ask Antonio).
I blame him for his poor performances, of course. He needs to take some responsibility for what he’s doing (or not doing) on the pitch and improve.
But the real blame for this awful, millstone transfer lies squarely with the manager and decision-makers at the club at the time (some of whom are still around, of course).
