For one week only!!! This week's PL Predictions. Best before 2nd February 2026

Post Mike Oxsaw »

Premier League
Saturday, 31 January 2026 15:00
Brighton & Hove Albion v Everton
Venue: Falmer Stadium
League Positions: 12 v 10
Current Forms: 18 v 19

Two closely matched teams, both by position & current form. I must confess to not watching either that closely, so cannot say which way either are "going". Maybe somebody can do a "deep dive" on this. In truth, I can only see home advantage as the biggest influence here.

Prediction: Home Win
Premier League
Saturday, 31 January 2026 15:00
Leeds United v Arsenal
Venue: Elland Road
League Positions: 16 v 1
Current Forms: 27 v 29

If there's one game this season where we do not need Arsenal to go all "spursy", this is it. The 15 place difference between the teams should (easily) overcome any home advantage available as the difference in current form is virtually negligible.

Prediction: Away Win
Premier League
Saturday, 31 January 2026 15:00
Wolverhampton Wanderers v A. F. C. Bournemouth
Venue: Molineux
League Positions: 20 v 13
Current Forms: 18 v 25

Bournemouth bring both better current form and league position to Molineaux. Wolves do seem rather dead & buried. Would take a miracle greater that the one needed to save our season to save theirs.

Prediction: Away Win
Premier League
Saturday, 31 January 2026 17:30
Chelsea v West Ham United
Venue: Stamford Bridge
League Positions: 5 v 18
Current Forms: 42 v 36
Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear! I can pile hope upon hope, wish upon wish, desire upon desire and need upon need. On top of home & current form advantage, Chelsea come into this game on the back of a very fine European away win. Another poster far wiser that me (Sorry, I know that doesn't help narrow it down) suggested elsewhere that they could bring tired legs with them, which would make late in the 2nd half the perfect moment to see whether Adama Traore will be of any use to us. If we're not trailing by too many at that point than there's the glimmer of a draw there for me. Sadly, the balance of probabilities more strongly suggests:

Prediction: Home Win
Premier League
Saturday, 31 January 2026 20:00
Liverpool v Newcastle United
Venue: Anfield
League Positions: 6 v 11
Current Forms: 29 v 16
Newcastle's season in the PL already seems to be flat-lining to mid-table, Liverpool proved in Europe this week that they still know where the goal is, but are European games & PL games getting more & more like chalk & cheese? Some suggest that may be the case and that European form doesn't carry over as well as it once did (notwithstanding my comments about Chelsea, above). Think the hosts will take the points here:

Prediction: Home Win
Premier League
Sunday, 1 February 2026 14:00
Aston Villa v Brentford
Venue: Villa Park
League Positions: 3 v 9
Current Forms: 39 v 18
Villa still in with a League title shout? Y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-no! Both Arsenal & Man City too strong for them. CL next season? Almost certainly, and 3 points today will greatly enhance that possibility. No Watkins, apparently, but I feel the wind will still be with the hosts.

Prediction: Home Win
Premier League
Sunday, 1 February 2026 14:00
Manchester United v Fulham
Venue: Old Trafford
League Positions: 4 v 7
Current Forms: 30 v 31

No, I can't work out how Fulham are in 7th place either, but there they are, just 4 points behind their hosts. Has Carrick found the missing piece of the home team's puzzle? Well, as new manager bounces go, he's having a corker. Fulham though. Put in a bit of effort do those lot and that may just be enough to give that bounce a slight deceased-feline sheen.

Prediction: Draw
Premier League
Sunday, 1 February 2026 14:00
Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace
Venue: City Ground
League Positions: 17 v 15
Current Forms: 29 v 2

Not even a fag paper between them in the league (but I rather wish we were that fag paper). Palaces' form though, has dropped off the proverbial cliff - they last picked up a point on 7th January - and Forest had a very nice, confidence boosting win in Europe this week. Nowhere near pork bellies & Florida Orange Juice in swapping league positions and we really need this to be the game in which the Eagles turn it around and soar. Sadly:

Prediction: Home Win
Premier League
Sunday, 1 February 2026 16:30
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
League Positions: 14 v 2
Current Forms: 28 v 30
Hmmm. Similar current forms but over half a table's difference in league positions. Both won in Europe this week, too. Can't even say Spurs have an advantage playing at home at the moment, either. As for injuries/available players? No idea. Bit like my thoughts for the result here, but, needs must, so:

Prediction: Away Win
Premier League
Monday, 2 February 2026 20:00
Sunderland v Burnley
Venue: Stadium of Light
League Positions: 8 v 19
Current Forms: 22 v 20

Giants of the North-east v Goliaths of the North-west. Who could ask for anything more (for a Monday evening game, that is). Sunderland's dominance over Burnley in the league, and home advantage will should tell:

Prediction: Home Win

Man City give the ball away & are too soft these days
Always used to be you could never get the ball off them
If I owned City and had given Pep all this money I’d be asking whether he has had enough
Players like Khusanov & Nunes should be nowhere near a team at the top
Might also ask why he gave away Morgan Rogers & Cole Palmer

I honestly can't understand why that wasn't given as a foul. Other way around it's a penalty. 100%

So is that the law now?
Grabs Haaland and throws him over but most of it was before the corner came in. No penalty

Haaland looks a pale shadow of his former self, he needs a game against West Ham.

This is why I don’t think Man City will catch Arsenal
Dont dominate as they once did without being sloppy & complacent
Not as ruthless in front of goal
Rodri not the player he was
Centre back pairing is weak as well.

I expect Ferret will appear soon, mad Spurs fan that he is.

Ball is possibly an inch out of play in the defensive corner
Villa take it the length of the pitch and score
VAR rules it out
Is that what VAR is for?

Of course reminds of when a Man Utd pass went behind Moyes standing two yards off the pitch before they scored

Could probably do with a draw between Forest & Palace to keep both within range
Getting desperate now & whatever happens we must win at Burnley or it’s another nail in the coffin

Arsenal 2-0 up though. Very good. Pressure off us later and any point we may get is a bonus. Should give us less fear of losing and more incentive to try and win.
They had to bounce back today, and agree. Leeds play Forest on Friday before we go to Burnley.
Yup great result for us, that! We really need to keep hold of this lead now and we are right back in it.
