The Gun Lobby are NOT the authorities. They have the ear of the authorities because:

1. Selling guns & ammunition makes certain people lots of money,
2. To impose and police US society from above will be prohibitively expensive, if at all possible. And unpopular - very unpopular.

It's, in general, the "compassionate" left who feel that others, wherever they are from, whatever contribution they make to the society in which they (aim to) live, are fully entitled to share in the wealth a few in that society have created - not acquired, created. Big difference. Get such people out of the decision making process and nations will advance unhindered.
