Premier League club would need to vacate their home for the first three weeks of the 2029-30 season to accommodate the athletics

Fears are growing that Britain’s bid to host the World Athletics Championships in 2029 could be scuppered by West Ham United’s reluctance to give up their home for three weeks.

West Ham secured tenancy of the London Stadium after they were given what was considered to be a generous deal but have not agreed to vacate the stadium at the beginning of the 2029-30 season for three weeks while organisers of the athletics event reconfigure the stadium for the nine-day event.

World Athletics has other major cities interested in hosting the event, including Rome, Munich and Nairobi, and prefers a September timescale so that it remains the finale to the athletics season.

If we're in the championship then the season starts  a week earlier.
Would that mean the first 4 games away?

I believe the algorithm on the PL BBC Micro fixtures computer prohibits more than 2 consecutive home or 2 consecutive away games.
They are allowed to put certain 'tweaks' into it to accommodate things, from what I understand.
That's probably very true.

Quite discourteous of them not clearing it with us first though, even if it was a purely academic exercise.

I don't recall the terms of our lease having provisions for things like this - only that when we don't need/haven't paid to use the stadium, it can be reconfigured for any other use provided that it was returned to us fit for purpose for our next scheduled game.

Libtards? Ha ha
Good grief

If we have possession from a certain date then as said we would require compensation to consider it

3 weeks would mean moving one home game to an away game
Not sure opening with 3 away games is ideal though

With more matches, it will be much more difficult to comply.

I presume the bid committee will be told, 'If it's not in the contract, come back with a large cash offer and we'll think about it'.

With regards to the stadium, pretty much everyone hates us now anyway, so there really isn't anything to gain by being nice.
