US Politics Thread
Seems like the main politics thread is becoming a Yankee-Doodle Trump-fest, so maybe scope here to split them out.
Will see if this one gains any traction ..if it does will move over a few of the million posts from our two protagonists from the other thread.

Re: US Politics Thread
See where I'm at with the Middle East for a long time is I never believed that Iraq etc would work whilst the head of the beast Irans Regime continued to exist operating it's reign of terror everywhere. Once that is tackled and sufficiently dealt with then would the wider implications begin to settle down. And I believe Trump and his administration/Pentagon know this, hence the initial extensive ground work laid brokering the Abraham Accords during his 1st term.
What we now see from those middle east allies beginning to side with Trumps aims as they see how reckless the Iranian Regime is behaving that it will likely mean they too turn on them. It's a long game plan but one worth pursuing in conjunction with putting a stop to their Nuclear capability.
And nope, none of this is easy and straightforward but one I feel is worth taking on now they have gone this far. The final piece of the jigsaw will be on the Iranian population choosing their destiny that only they can ultimately choose for themselves. They do that, then the likes of the US and the wider region will support them in toppling the Regime. That happens, then this could well be very significant for all.

Re: US Politics Thread
There is probably a mindset among a gaggle of hawks in the US war office thinking along the lines of "Well, a couple of nukes brought the Japanese to heel pretty quickly last time around, so...".
Big difference is that those classed as today's "enemy" would simply see the use of such weaponry as producing martyrdom for them on steroids and probably goad for more and more atom bombs to be dropped.
Of course that could create such a severe virgin shortage that people may actually decide martyrdom is not worth it for themselves...but I doubt it; virginity will simply go onto rinse & repeat.

The alternative of them getting their hands on nuclear capability was an absolute no-no and zero intervention was unavoidable. The regime won't change, they'll be back with the same nuclear programme before the year is out. Or are you forgetting Trump claimed to have "obliterated" their nuclear programme out of existence in June 2025.
They obliterated the sites targetted in the Midnight Hammer operation. What then happened was the Iranians negotiating in bad faith to end it with no intention during the 6 months since that happened, as they tried their level best to crack on with it anyway although their ambitions being severely degraded. So the US returned to hit them hard once more. There will be no time soon of Iran being able to produce nuclear weapons like they were close to achieving and in that respect the world is definitely a safer place halting that capability for a long time to come.

Agree with this. It's essentially a guerilla war waged by fanatic hardliners, so there is no lined up army to wage a battle against.
Trouble is they don't "want" anything you can meaningfully offer...the eradication of those that don't follow that way of life is a hard thing to offer up.
So there can be all the diplomacy, the public agreement you like at the state level...you know deep down there is a diametric opposition and an insatiable expansionist viewpoint, and any 'truce' is merely a truce of convenience and not the end game.
So these periodic violent interventions will continue with the intent of preventing them getting the big guns. But nothing really changes as it's about unshakeable belief.
Tough subject.

There can only be a significant change if religion is separated from the state. No chance of that happening anywhere in the region as it would require a minority - or at least a significant minority - giving up their faith..

enough now - can't they just shake hands, turnaround and go home?
nobody wins from this course of action.
Don't you want the end of the old regime to help liberate the Iranian people and bring around meaningful peace for the region and the wider world after 47 agonising long years of terror?
Putting all those lives at risk isn’t worth it. Not to mention the global repercussions.
It's been proven time and again, you can't win wars in the middle east, they still live in a bygone age, as soon as you think you can leave them too it, it starts again. They are pointless wars from a West perspective.

Good to hear, we are all on the same page then. Good thing we didn't have a defeatist attitude during WWII as well, otherwise we'd all be goose stepping by now.
If our grandparents had seen how it all panned out, they'd have sided with Hitler. They fought for their families not to end the Third Reich.
Kids today would rather fight for the right to be 81 different genders or for the right for Terrorist led shithole's to be given free reign to do what they want, than stand up for their families.

Everyone want peace and live peace and to live in a utopia but due the the pollical situation in the middle east it does no allow that because their are a number fanatical Islamists groups ISIS , AQ , martyrs brigade and a shit load load of oil and gas and if the jihadis get hold of that as they did in Iraq they can take over city's Mosul the second biggest city in Iraq Fallujah , Tikrit , Ramadi and others and then moved into Syria .

As you've likely harmed more children than Trump, Putin and rape gangs combined I hope you have the same empathy for your victims?
