I mean, personally he seemed OK but there was something of the z list Brian Blessed about him. Couldn't speak as well, got outlived my the real thing and was actually,  well, pretty shit at acting, wasn't he? Pretty much dined out on Cocoon where he was even.out acted by that cսnt from Police Academy. Let's face it, he was an overrated badger.

As Nurse said below he was excellent as John Wayne Gacy.  In fact that 1992 TV two parter "To Catch a Killer" is an outstanding piece of drama and Dennehy was one creepy bastard in it.

Thought he had a decent run in the mid 80s with F/X, Best Seller and Belly of an architect. 

According to Wiki, he won two Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, and a Golden Globe, and received six Primetime Emmy Award nominations. I very much doubt that Brian Blessed received similar accolades.
