Kilman Is Max Kilman the worst centre back in your memory - name worse?

Post camel-with-3-humps »

In light of the horrific display at Wolves, is Max Kilman the worst centre back we've had? There is probably worse, but I can't remember.

Gary Breen was pretty bad. He didn't make as many mistakes as Kilman, but he was weak -  like a road cone easily bypassed.

Apart from watching a few highlights this season (such has been my negativity around all things West Ham coming to a head!!!) i don't remember him as being completely gash? But agree we got our pants pulled down with that fee 😢

And i expect we will need him in the championship, FWIW, i reckon he is more suited to that kind of league and be more his level, so if we are going to get rid, then the end of next season would be my guess, assuming we get promoted of course!!!

I dunno...Dale Gordon comes pretty close as well. 750k (ridiculous money at the time) scored on his debut against Coventry and then disappeared for the next 3 years. He went on loan to Millwall and they got even less change out of him!

His nickname was "Electric"

Turns out it should've been "Portable Hand Cranked Generator from Eastern Bloc" 🙄

We got him from Benfica he was at Chelsea before that after impressing at Charlton. We also signed Gary Charles from Benfica that year as well. Both spent most of their time injured but Charles was a full on alcoholic by that stage.

West Ham worst 11 would be an interesting thread, given it's not been done for a few years.

I'll have Kovac as my skipper.

Roberto was another signing which made no sense whatsoever.

Absolutely nobody in Spain rated him as anything more than a back-up keeper and a bang average one at that.

He was already 33 by the time we signed him and hadn't played much more than 150 games in Spain.

It would've been better to sign a younger keeper aged 23-24 from the championship with 150 games under his belt.

Piss poor and the club continues to do it.

It's not bad luck is it, its fucking diabolical squad planning to not have competent cover for the keeper
Yeah, it is just as much as poor recruiting (which wasn't his pick) because it's unusual for a Keeper to get injured and 1 that was so lengthy. He really wanted to keep Adrian which was his preferred choice of back-up Keeper he tried to convince to stay and then the floor opened up to the new installed Director of Football Husillos who sourced Roberto from Espanyol (having worked with him previously at Malaga). So rather than pin the blame on Pellegrini, the blame should land squarely on Husillos shoulders for that shocking pick.

"In September they were knocked out from the EFL Cup losing 4-0 to Oxford United of League One.[121] He was sacked by the club on 28 December 2019 after a 2–1 home loss to Leicester City, their fourth straight home defeat, with the club in 17th place and having won only five league games all season"

Ultimately finished Pellegrini’s potentially positive tenure for me. The mistake signing him, compounded by his reluctance/stubbornness to dropping him, all saw a horrific run of form. He made David Martin, nice bloke though he is, look like a Premier League keeper rather than the journeyman lower league “training ground” keeper he was.

Moreso because I recall rumours that he saw Roberto as #1 when he signed rather than back up to Fabianski, albeit he did only came in once Fab got injured I think.

Fucking hell, what a car crash of a keeper 😂

Myth he wanted Roberto over Fabianski, indeed it was Adrian he wanted to keep all along as back-up to the new main man in goal Fabianski he liked working with the previous season. It was only a freak long term injury that meant the clown replacement (Courtesy of Husillos) Roberto then came in and even after a while of trying to preserve with him did he then turn to Martin successfully in the memorable Chelsea Away match.

Definitely should have kept Pellegrini and allowed him the time to get Fabianski back in the Team. He was and still is a quality Manager and in classic West Ham fashion we fuck it up and launch him out the Club along with the bath water.

I suppose we're all guilty of looking at things from more recent memory, but Roberto was truly horrific. That Burnley away game is the worst individual performance you will ever see from a professional footballer.

The legendary Brazilian Garrincha would've been right at home in Somerset as well then!

According to his biography the bloke was into a bit of goat shagging as well.

Good for playing on the old Yeovil pitch though.
The old Plough Lane ground when the crazy gang played there wasn't exactly flat either but nobody ever seemed to mention that! It wasn't actually located in what most people would think of as the romantic, stereotypical tennis and ladies who do tea idea of Wimbledon either.
