View From The Opposition - Newcastle United
Vinny 5:40 Fri Sep 11
Whilst the international break has been frustrating in the sense that we have had to wait a long time to see West Ham in action again there has been some enjoyment to take as we have been able to go over that incredible 3-0 victory at Anfield.

Monday night sees Slaven Bilic take charge of his third Premiership home game as we go in search of our first success at Upton Park this season having lost to Leicester City and AFC Bournemouth on our last attempts.

Newcastle have had a slow start to the season although very few would have expected anything more considering where they were last season and the constant battle between supporters and owner Mike Ashley.

This week the View from the opposition comes from Michael Brown of www.readnewcastle.com

From the outside looking in getting rid of Pardew was just plain stupid - but many say the same about us and Allardyce and we had very good reasons - so what is the reason(s) you wanted Alan out so bad? (Mr Polite)

The style of play, tactics and starting lineups were just all wrong to be fair and came across as Ashley's 'YES' man.

Kinnear, Pardew. Gullit, Allardyce, Roeder – Rate them in order of popularity. (Sarge)

Roeder
Allardyce
Pardew
Gullit
Kinnear

Who, realistically, would have been your first choice new manager in the summer (extra empahasis on realistically), and given we were in the same boat, would you have happily swapped our respective eventual appointments? (Ron Eff)

Newcastle were linked with McClaren before the end of last season so it was no great surprise but Newcastle did apparently hold talks with Patrick Vieira and he would of been my choice but I was not disappointed with McClaren's appointment.

How much longer until sackmcclaren.com is set up? (Alex G)

I don't see that happening to be honest, McClaren has impressed me with his approach, patience and his communication to the fans, I'm also impressed he's on the board which gives him far more say than anyone under the Ashley era.

Apart from wanting Ashley out - what exactly do Newcastle fans want? (Mr Polite)

Other fans always say our expectations are to high but I'm happy to have a team with passion for the shirt they wear, 100% commitment and a team capable of attacking football, that's all we ask.

At one point Newcastle were a high flying title challenging side under Keegan with the likes of Shearer, Ferdinand, Ginola, and Asprilla. How do you explain the different path the club have ended up on versus Man Utd since then? (Stubbo)

The big difference is Manchester United are a MASSIVE global brand and Newcastle are no where near that and never have been but we had owners happy to splash the cash but the club wasn't able to recoup the massive amounts of money the club were spend yet Manchester United could recoup there money on players through shirt sales around the world.

Although I'm not an Ashley fan but he has got the club financially sound.

Win the FA Cup or finish 4th in the league?

We are desperate for a trophy so that is an easy question!!

What is your take on West Ham’s move to the Olympic Stadium?

It's such an iconic Stadium because of the 2012 Olympic Games, I'm just pleased a club with the fan base to fill it as it would be a shame to see the iconic stadium half empty.

Which West Ham player would you like in the Newcastle side?

I really like Payet but I look at our squad and we really need a new left-back and I happen to be a fan of Cresswell so I'd say him, he's barely put a foot wrong since he joined from Ipswich.

Your favourite crisp

Oh this is a toughie, but I think McCoys flamed grilled steak crisp just about win.

And finally, your prediction for the game.

It will be a very tight game but I think if Newcastle can defend like they did at Old Trafford and Sissoko and Thauvin can supply Cisse (Mitrovic suspended) then we might just win it.

Many thanks to Michael for his answers.

Here's a POST MATCH VIEW from the opposition that I really enjoyed in the car on the way to work this morning. It made the total gridlock tolerable!

Good work as always Vinny.

The questions this week were all decent enough, just think the respondee was a bit dull. As always that's out of your hands though.

Much prefer the current line of half thoughtful questions rather than the tired old cliches that used to be posed.

Keep going Vinny, most of us on here are enjoying this.

Vinny, do a next one, and Peroni also do one... Then we can see who does it better.

Given you put the chance out there for people to ask the questions, limited criticism can be thrown your way. This weeks suggestions were largely pathetic (and the questionee was clearly horrendously boring). Peroni had his opportunity in that.

Not saying he won't do a good VFTO. It'll be interesting to see. But I also think Vincent should keep up the good work. (Helped by my question being used - which was answered like a politician!).

Cheers Vinny ~ Always read & enjoy this!

I agree it must be a devil of a job working out what questions to ask (& put them dipomatically enough to get a response from our opposition fans)

You just know, full well what's coming when our next game is against scousers or geordies

2 of the toughest ones in a row!

When do we play Norwich?

Thanks Vinny, and. I agree with Mr P, and Newcastle is such a tired subject, apart from petrol bombs, sack the board and brown ale, what else is there? I can't even named a current player, unless Coloccini is still there.

Stirling is right, Vinny didn't get much help on the questions this week.

As someone that has done the questions in the past when it was an award winning thread (but I don't like to talk about it) I have the utmost respect for Vinny as its not easy to pitch just right, where you get a mixture of piss taking and interesting content.

Finding people willing to do it and answer well was never easy either.

Vinny deserves credit for keeping this going as it is a lot of effort and time.
