Ivan Toney: Brentford striker charged by FA

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been charged over 232 alleged breaches of betting rules between February 2017 and January 2021, the Football Association has announced.
Toney, who was not included in England's 26-man World Cup squad, had previously revealed he had been assisting the FA with its enquiries amid allegations he gambled on matches.

Much as I share your contempt for the media's obsession with the 'Sky Six', I think you have this the wrong way around.
Since, as far as they are concerned, football doesn't exist outside of those six, it's hardly any news at all. However, a Man U squad player, like Rashford or Ronaldo, would have made the front pages for weeks.

Sturrridge was banned for 6 months for 2 bets.
Trippier was banned for 10 games for giving his friends info
Barton was banned for 18 months after 35 bets.
Toney placed 232 bets. Not looking good for him.

I read 38 of the teams playing in the PL and championship were jerseys sponsored by gambling company.
Ireland is introducing a ban on gambling TV advertising which thank fuck will mean I won't have to listen to ray Winston and crouch every ad break

Probably just too thick to understand or comprehend the rules properly rather than trying to do anything underhand. He is a footballer after all.
Shame though- would have liked to see him on the plane after a cracking run of form.

i imagine when he started this he was a Championship player and didnt think he would be on the radar.
Or he is a complete idiot as every player knows the score and am sure they are reminded before every season.
The punishment would mean more if as said clubs and the Premier league & broadcasters werent coining it themselves from betting comapnies
Of course only one point matters ... him being suspended for the games against us.

Toney should of known better but football embraces the gambling industry with open arms in terms of sponsorship and advertising with former pros and managers on our tv screens constantly encouraging us to place a wager.
Although clearly not the case with Toney when you can place a bet on the first goalscorer at step 5 games (where odds compilers are known to get it wrong) or the time of the first booking free kick or throw in then the system is open to abuse.
I seem to recall an incident involving a throw in straight from the kick of at Upton park once involving Kitson making the headlines & le Tiss being embroiled in something similar.
I also knew Merson back in the day and the bookies would be falling over themselves to give him credit and didn't give a shit what he was putting it on.
