Oppenheimer film

Saw last night. Superb film. Refreshing to watch a film without CGI for one thing. Murphy gives a stunning performance.

I can’t argue with that, mate. Arrival is brilliant. Everything about it, and then the end…superb. I also love Enemy, and think Prisoners is fantastic. I didn’t love Sicario but I know it’s a very good film. I might not love Dune, but I appreciate how good he is at most genres.

Denis makes cracking films
Agreed. Still think Arrival is his best so far. Brilliant movie.

I saw the film in IMAX 70mm and agree, it looked great. But that was one of 30 screens in the world that show that format. It’s not like there’s an abundance of true IMAX screens in the world. But if you’re making a film that is great in one format but not in another, you’re making an event rather than making a film. Denis makes cracking films, but Dune and Dune 2 and so fucking overrated it’s unreal.

You think you’re funny but you just sound like a cunt. Anyway, I recently saw the Tenet re-release and had a great time. Like Inception, it’s a popcorn film dressed up as an arthouse flick, but at least it gets you thinking.

Unfortunately I think I am beyond that.
Perhaps it is that I am so old that visual size, scale, immersion, all encompassing audio, whatever won't compensate for the feeling that I've been sat in the same place for too long and just wanting to leave.
If any film or indeed any other form of entertainment has the power to overcome my very limited attention span, I'll let you know.😁

The film is a bit racist though. No brothers in it for example. I hear Nolan is going to re-edit it and cast John David Washington as Oppenheimer.

Thats true
I am back doing the £25 a month Curzon CULT (yes, correct spelling) membership where you get 5 free tickets a week that you can use at cinemas or via their streaming app. Means I go to things even if not 100% sure they are going to be worth the ticket price. Can use at all Curzon cinemas though I tend to go to Mayfair (tucked away on Curzon St out of the West End), Soho (near work)& the Bloomsbury one near Russell Square that shows a lot of documentaries

Agreed on this.
Can't watch films at home any more. Always end up doing something else or falling asleep

I also thought it was a brilliant film. It didn’t feel like 3 hours to me, and Murphy’s performance was deserving of an Oscar any year.
I couldn’t get into Tenet at all. I kept falling asleep. I think you need to see these films in the cinema. Watching at home with distractions and after a few drinks is perhaps not the best preparation.

I thought it was excellent and a deserved Best Picture winner Might have given Best Actor to Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers though. Some recent films have been too long (Killer Moon whatsit especially) but Oppenheimer justified its 3 hrs Saw it a second time at the IMAX which i'd recommend.
Anatomy of a Fall & Zone of Interest were also excellent Not a bad year for films overall

He was ludicrously handsome in 28 Days Later. Age catches up with all of us in the end.

I can't watch Cillian Murphy anymore. As he's aged, his face has become even more nobbly. Like someone drew a pair of eyes on a Jerusalem artichoke.

Dune Part 2 was made to be seen in IMAX which I did having not gone to the cinema for yonks. It is completely immersive on a fucking huge screen and feeling the score rearrange your insides. No matter what your home setup is it cannot replicate that.

I'm with you. Perhaps if I was prepared to invest three odd hours of full concentration, I would be able to see what the fuss was about, but it failed to grab me and consequently my attention wandered, and the laptop was opened.
Barely made it through Dune Part 2 (despite enjoying the film overall) due to the slog involved.
What happened to 90 minute films?

Sorry, but got about 40 mins in and pressed pause and not sure im going back, its not great in any way as far as those first 40 are concerned, in fact a tad boring apart from the tits out bit!
It seems to be one of these films that's trendy and "hip" so i reckon many will say they like it and so tell people how good and edgy it is and a masterpiece etc. so as to make yourself look sophisticated and knowledgeable in such matters.
OR
Im just a pleb who doesn't appreciate the greatness of this very looooong borefest?
LOL

This was the most overrated shit I have seen in a long time. Murphy probably deserved his Oscar for the amount of time the camera was shoved in his face and I didn’t want to turn off, but RDJ was the same as he is in every fucking film and the English bint thought looking moody was acting. After Dune, I also have no idea why Florence Pugh keeps getting hired.
Best Film? No fucking chance.
