If you have a few bob to spend and like your steaks, then Del Frisco's is the restaurant for you. Best steaks in the land. Go visit the Liberty Bell too. Wonderful City.

When I went some years back every was raving about having to have a Philly Burger. What a let down that was.

There last summer. Enjoyed it. A smaller more manageable NYC plus the obvious historical aspects. Great top end restaurants. But you need a reason to be there, otherwise I'd generally go to NYC.

Re: Philadelphia - Not the Cheese, the City
Philly was just about the first place I ever went to other than a day trip to France. I was about 17 and pulled a go-go dancer from there at a gig we played (I play the drums).

She was Italian American and lived right next to the Italian market where the original Rocky was shot. I was too young and innocent to realise that every other shop was a front for the mob.

I had long black spiky hair and a cockney accent and attracted plenty of 'YO MOTHERFUCKER' from passing cars and gangs of blacks but that was offset by almost immediately being more or less begged to work in a fashion boutique by the owner for twice the money I earned in London and every American girl with a bit about her loving me.

My favourite was Joanie who lived next to the dog pound and our noisy shagging would set the dogs howling. Fucking great- and she gave me the record I most wanted and was impossible to get in England, Leave Home by The Ramones with 'Carbona not Glue' on instead of 'Babysitter' because Carbona sued them and only a few were printed.

Back at the Italian market I wanted a drink and wandered up to what looked to me like a mini supermarket with a big old lump in sunglasses sitting on the stoop reading a newspaper. As I walked up to the door he stood up and said 'wherethefuckdayafinkyou'regoing kid'?

'I'm going in the shop mate. I'm thirsty'.

'whatdafuck! What are you, Australian'?

'No I'm from London'.

'Wellgetdafuckoutahereyapunk' and whacked me with his paper so I walked off. Relaying that to my go-go dancer's mum she laughed loudly and said I was lucky not to get whacked permanently.

I also ended up walking into a very black area of town and going into a Voo-doo shop run by two old black women. After their initial surprise (they told me I was the first white person they'd ever seen in their shop) I had a great time buying gifts to take home with me like 'domination oil' (to dominate everyone around me) 'love oil' and all kinds of crazy stuff.

It's funny when you're a kid you think that life's going to be like that forever and take your youth for granted. Ignorance gets you in and back out of big trouble and it's a wonder any of us live to see middle age.

Jesus I feel old. What the fuck is this thread about again?

Just turned down a job there.mwent a few times briefly for interviews and such. Nice old east coast city. Cheaper than ny or dc. Have to go to the rocky steps at the art museum.

Liberty bell. - have restaurant, Zahav, can book on open table. Few other good places to eat.

Worth a poke around.

Re: Philadelphia - Not the Cheese, the City
fab city -

Art Museum (if you like that sort of thing) is world class.

Reading terminal market - every kind of food you can imagine, all in gigantic portions. Best icecream I ever had was from there.

Lots of bars and cool shops - head to South Street
