Curtis Mayfield

Anyone else appreciate the sheer beauty of some of this mans music? Just listened to 'sweet exorcist' for the first time in ages.
An absolute treat for the ears and for the heart.

Love all of his stuff. Mostly named on here.
But I particularly love 'Little Child Running Wild'. Great track.

Add a little sugar, honeysuckle and a great big expression of happiness Boy you couldn’t miss with a dozen roses Such would astound you The joy of children laughing around you These are the makings of you It is true, the makings of you

He's excellent but he's no Edwin Starr...

A lot of his lesser known album tracks from the late 60s and early 70s are sensational too. They have this ultra cool, sexy atmosphere.

Claret Badger, agreed. Patti Jo's version is unbelievable.
Curtis/Live! is one of the best live albums out there though

If you can be musically cool, he is it.
Of another time when music was sweeter and real.

Genius.
Yes, paralysed from the neck down for his last 9 years, but still composing some sublime stuff during that period, nevertheless. Loved "The Book I Haven't Read" he wrote with Lambchop.

I always appreciated his work. Some of the early Impressions recordings were also great. e.g. Woman's Got Soul / People Get Ready / You've Been Cheatin'
The last nine years of his life must have been excruciating, being paralyzed from the neck down. .

Don't worry if there's a hell below we all going to go.
People get ready.
He did some epic stuff. Terrible accident with being paralysed.
Off topic but this will be appreciated by Mayfield fans. I was sent this the other day and it blew me away. Marvin Gaye isolated vocal track. Holy shit, that's some singing.

Oh yes. Got into his stuff via Fishbone's cover of Freddies's dead. Beautiful and uplifting,
