I may or may not have loved them when I was younger, but that's obscured by the loathing I felt for camp holidays by the last two I was forced to go on as a kid.

Even the upgrade from caravan to chalet didn't help

Love or loathe them, holiday camps were a big part of proper old skool childhoods.

I found the whole Hi-D-HI series totally cringeworthy at it's original airing - probably because I felt myself far more sophisticated than spending my summers somewhere like that...ever again (Llorette de Mar package tour, anybody? BEA Trident mind you, none of your poor people's propeller driven shit).

I can now view those shows without sucb pretentiousness and appreciate the content.

Rip Ruth.

Her first husband was Welsh actor Philip Madoc who was the memorable German officer in a Dad's Army episode. He died 10 years ago.

Lived in Dovercourt and best mates Mum used to work at Warners so got to meet her a few times.

A really lovely lady who was personable but not mad as a box of frogs like Sue Pollard.

These days the obituary announcements make me feel very, very mortal and aware of my time.

Got to make the most of it.

I used to swim in the olympic sized swimming pool when visiting Harwich as a kid. Family living nearby used to see the cast around town when they were filming in Dovercourt.

Re: Bye de Bye
Used to love going to Warners in Dovercourt where it was filmed. The reunion weekend at the end of September was a booze and bunk up festival.

RIP Ruth, another from the 80s gone. Been watching a lot of OFAH recently and it's sad that more have gone that are still here.

I liked her, RIP Ruth Madoc

I have a thing for a Welsh accent on a bird, it turns me on.
