Who can afford to buy a train ticket these days? We're trying to save the planet, well, not me personally, yet these privatised train companies get trillions in government subsidies and then just take the piss with high prices and shit service.

Same with the water companies who happily chuck our shit into our rivers and season - and charge us to do it.

A train ticket needs to be a lot cheaper than it is to drive, and water, the most essential thing to mankind, should be as cheap as possible., as in the 'publicly owned company' makes zero profit (other than what they need to invest in modernising and updating).

I do hope there is a hell and that is where Thatcher now resides.

It is kind of funny that after 2 years or so of strikes, making some people lives hell they now want our help. As a wise man once said "you've made your own bed now lie in it"

Sadiq Khan would take your card away from you if he got half a chance. Has already reduced the hours of use. It was Boris who brought in the over 60 card.

Wrong!

Freedom pass was launched in 1977.

Interesting tactics from the train cunts here, take fucking liberties for years being on strike all the time when people needed you the most, make the people reliant on the services life a pain in the arse when they need to get to work. Be expensive as fuck for a shit service and continually put prices up with no service improvement or investment in anything that benefits the customer.

Then decide NOW is the time they need public support. Nah, fuck right off train cunts.
Extra points for not seeing this coming when half the workforce no longer needs to get a fucking train every day post pandemic. Fucking obvious innit, how is anyone surprised?

I think our country owes an enormous amount to our elder generations, those in their late seventies, eighties onwards.

Was in Boots a few weeks ago, where the bloke in front of me, probably in his late 70s asked the girl behind the counter for something for his ear infection. She replied that if it was an infection he'd have to visit his GP. He just laughed out loud at that, and asked wasn't there anything she could recommend. She couldn't, so he replied he'd try olive oil. Just found it sad that someone at that age laughed at the suggestion of trying to contact a GP.

I don't think it's right that those generations of people are also now being virtually forced to purchase a certain type of phone, and no doubt download various APPs.

Thought we were meant to be encouraging green transport, not making it more difficult for potential buyers into it.

Won't they just strike until they get what they want?

Yeah but all they have to do is press a button and the train drives itself, oh and they have to know the difference between red yellow and green signals..

Oh, ticket office staff?

Useful now though, which is all that matters.

When I'm eventually in SE Asia I'll probably find somebody to hop around for me so I won't need to travel at all - maybe someone you once knew.

If companies/the country/the government are serious about moving stuff like this into the virtual world then they should offer everybody an entry-level smart-phone with all the required apps pre-installed.

Flood the market with such devices and there will be no resale value so no point in losers claiming a dozen or so phones "for other family members".

I spoke to our ticket office and they said they are only interested in season ticket payers, so don’t pay get on the train there are no ticket inspectors anymore so fuck them.

Caught 4 separate trains in one day, a couple of weeks ago. Tickets inspected on each individual train.

Re: campagn to save railway ticket offices
I’m pretty sure the data supports that ticket offices are rarely used now and it’s been a steady and consistent decline. I personally haven’t used one in years, I have used machines as it’s quicker and in the last few years I buy everything online and use digital tickets stored in the app.

I realise the digital option isn’t an option for some but you can’t keep something going for a minority of people when the majority use alternative ways of buying tickets. It’s a business at the end of the day and the cost of keeping them open will always get passed on to the consumer in higher ticket prices which impacts a hell of a lot more people
